Title: SWINE FLU JAB
Post by: UK_SL on November 30, 2009, 04:05:10 am
I had the first part of my swine flu jab last week and my arm is killing me - I gotta go back next week for the second part in the other arm and am not looking forward to it.

Not me. I'm taking part in a study on the H1N1 vaccine in those HIV+ too. I got my shot a week ago and had no issues at all.  Just have to fill out a form and a couple follow up visits.

The only time I've ever had a sore arm after any injection is when I tensed up while getting it. Once I realised what was doing it, I started making a conscious effort to relax my arm - letting it go totally limp at my side - and haven't had any problems since. It also helps to look away because if you know when the jab is coming, it's easy to have a knee-jerk reaction and tense up. Try it next time.

The only shot that makes me sore is the pneumovax vaccine shot.

I received the H1N1 shot 3 weeks ago. Within about 6 hours I could hardly raise my arm. That lasted about a day---then another 3-4 days for the soreness to completely disappear. I am also in an H1N1 study with HIV+ men (in Canada).  150 people from clinics across the country. Tomorrow I go back to the clinic. They do a blood draw and will tell me at that time whether I am in the half of the study group that will get a second shot.
I have talked to several friends (none are HIV+) and only 1 of the 7 had a sore arm. I think it's just one of those individual things where certain people are predisposed to that type of reaction.
