I had unprotected sex, oral and vaginal with a friend on July 26 while drunk. He and I had sex also in May. My boyfriend started having pains in scrotum a few weeks after the July 26 incident so I freaked out and went and had all STD test ran. Around Aug 28 my doctors office called and said all test came back negative except HIV was indeterminate. When I asked nurse what this ment she said "I dont know, Doc wants you to return in 4 weeks to retest" needless to say I googled the hell out of it and since have thought I had every symptom. I called my friend and told him what doc said, he said he was positive that he did not have HIV and took a home Oraquick test on Sept 4, came back negative. I took Oraquick on Sept 5, negative. I again took an Oraquick home test on Sept 23, negative. Needless to say I am scared beyond belief and having very hard time focusing on anything but this and so scared to get the bloodtest redone cause afraid of result. Friend insist the test was faulty and im freaking over nothing. This has been a horrid few months, lost my siste to suicide in June, Indeterminate in Aug, BF diagnosed with cancer in Sept and he moved out in Sept also. Guess I'm looking for a bit of comfort, I may not deserve it after my July indiscretion but the torture I have put myself through since has been torrid... Please Help!

I would expect a negative result when you retest . • An indeterminate/inconclusive result means that the antibody test was neither positive nor negative and you must test again .
The window period is 6 weeks past exposure and again at 3 months to confirm the results . I would expect a negative result if I were you .
The average time to seroconversion is 22 days. Most who are infected will test positive by 6 weeks. For various reasons a small number will take longer and that is why we follow the CDC recommendation to test at 3 months for a conclusive negative result

What are some of those reasons that would cause it to take longer for you to test positive beyond 6 weeks exposure? Do you find with all the post that are placed here, is the Orasure home oral test accurate enough take comforte in the results? There are so many sites out there that can cause your mind to go wild with wonder and fear if you are waiting to know. The mind is extremely power and its amazing what it can do when it comes to feeling various symptoms and actually thinking you have them.

The vast majority of people who seroconvert will do so in the 6 week window period . I haven't seen anyone negative at 6 weeks go on to test positive for HIV .
HIV tests (including Rapid tests) are one of the most accurate blood tests in the world, with all types being close to 100% accurate if done within the window period of 6 weeks-3 months post exposure
The reasons some people take longer is because of Chemo thready or autoimmune disorders . Its a rare thing to test positive outside the window period and certainly does not apply to you .

Most accurate blood but I am referring to the oral swab one that is swipped between your gum line and cheeck, top and bottom of mouth and you yourself at home.

Its an accurate test you can rely on . Its the rapid test I mentioned above .

Since last post to did two more home oraquick mouth swab test one on Oct 3 and one one Oct 8 both of which were negative, I also redid the blood test with my primary care doc on Oct 3 cause she said four weeks from my first indeterminate. I got those lab results today and test is indeterminate again. The two original two bands p55 and p51 that where present abnormal on the first test are now absent and the new band is p65 equivocal. please ofcer some piece of mind because I have to wait another 4 weeks to retest.

Out Of curiosity. What did your doctor say?

Nurse told me doctor said if I wanted further counseling about this I need to refer to an infectious disease doctor.

I did an oraquick home test same day as the last blood test Oct 3 which is roughly 68 days from encounter plus did another oraquick home test at day 73.

A Western Blot test would be definitive. I am rather suprised you didn't get one.

so I guess im coming to the conclussion that the home test are not very accurate. I was indeterminate with p55 p51 first blood test then negative on 4 oraquicks did another blood tes and indeterminate again but with a different band p65. does the changing of bands make since? what about oraquicks being negative even last one I took day of last blood draw?
