I always use the store brands from "big box" stores like Walmart, Costco, or Target.  The quality and content match more expensive multis while saving money.  Formulations like K-PAX are more example of literally pissing money down the drain--for far less one can assemble a multi-vitamin and the other micronutrients contained in it

When I used to purchase my own I was always told to pick one with no iron in it.

My ASO provides all clients w/ a great multivitamin from a company called One.  The vitamins are "Eco Green Multi".  They are loaded with immune boosters and mostly use all natural ingredients.  I've started buying other supplements from the same company and have never had a complaint.  You can get them through http://www.evitamins.com  or at most health food stores.

I have always gone with a food based multi-vitamin from the health food store.  Yes, they are more expensive, but I can tell a diffrence between the low cost generic brands.  If you have a question as to what one is right, go to the health food store and they are able to help you find the right one.  I swear by the food based ones simply because they are absorbed better by your body and are eaiser on the stomach.

I found an article about the effect of vitamin C on virus and cancer cells. It mentioned that therapeutic (high) doses of Vitamin C do not hurt normal cells, but it is toxic to cancer and virus cells. Can anybody comment on this issue: true or false? Just googled for HIV and Vitamin C and some links on the issue appeared. Now, what to trust, what to skip?

While I responded to the other posting of this same messages in another forum, I'll add some content here.  The article you cited is rather deceptive:  it discusses test tube levels of vitamin C that your body would not allow your blood to reach.  Before allowing blood levels of the vitamin to rise so high, your GI tract would be seizing and your kidneys will be impaired after expeling all of the excess vitamin consumed that they could handle.

Instead of googling yourself into potential trouble, limit your reading to established HIVer sites with a track record of consciencious research and activism.  Everyone seems to know about TheBody.com but don't forget Project Inform which has been around for a couple decades.  Their resources on vitamins and supplements can be found here:

http://www.projectinform.org/cgi-bin/print_hit_bold.pl/fs/herbs_b.html (http://www.projectinform.org/cgi-bin/print_hit_bold.pl/fs/herbs_b.html)

Note the caution regarding excess doses of seemingly beneficial nutrients like vitamins A, C and E, as well as selenium.

Cheers,
David

I have been using K-Pax for a number of years now and am tremendously happy with them.  You can find them at www.kpax.us    They are a little spendy, but I really believe in them.

Good luck.

I get GNC's mega men...they have the oh so holy 200mcg's of Selenium in them and a substantial amount of Zinc.  I haven't seen any vitamins that rival their ingredients from any store out there. (I'm sure a "buyer's club" person would disagree). I usually take those with B "100" , Fish Oil, and Green Tea Extract from Trader Joe's...my doc says to just eat healthy and avoid "expensive piss"...they make me happy so I just do it.  I'd say go with Trader Joe's, they are the cheapest.

Every month i am prescribed complex b (twice per day) and acid ascorbic (vitamin c - once per day). Lately, they recommended me this multivitamin called BIOMETRIX with ginseng and other stuff.

I am very happy with the complex b and the c vitamin it has really put my mood up.

cheers,

Juan Carlos

Well my ID said go to costco and get a multi vitamin that should do the trick. It is what I take it is cost efficient, I do not get over kill and I pee out what I do not need. I find that eating well is the best thing to do. I eat fresh veggies, cook good meals and eat regular. It seems to be the best way to go. I asked my doctor about a nutritionist and he said you know how to eat well. Just keep doing the right thing, eat well live in a clean environment and exercise.

My experience is that Centrum is good, and to avoid One-a-day. They have the same ingredients according to the box, but the later makes me nauseate and sometimes puke, and Centrum never does. It costs about twice as much, but it's still not bad if you get it at Costco.
