Looking for other poz friends in NYC 18-30 preferably. I tried the personals but haven't had much luck.

Personals? Seriously? Register for free lunch at GMHC -- swarming with kids that age. Or go to the Gay Community Center on W. 13th and look around. Placing an ad in the on line personals isn't really making much of an effort.

There is a gathering that takes place for HIV+ people I believe on every Thursday evening at bar called Vlada in NYC. You could double check by googling the time and place to be sure. This is for all ages 21+ and up ( not sure about 18+).

Good luck making friends :)

I think it moved from Vlada to the Ritz -- still on Thursdays.

I'm from NYC, but a little outside your age range at 31yo.  :p

I went to the Ritz last week and really enjoyed it.  I only stayed for a little bit, but the guy that runs it is very friendly and welcoming.  He makes sure that you meet other guys, instead of being alone in a corner somewhere.  I think it's still every week, as far as I know.

Hi Contagion, welcome to the forums. We'd all like to hear a bit more about you.

You'll have to post in the public forums at least three times before the PM function becomes available to you. It's set up that way to stop spammers.

And here I've been thinking all along that craigslist was the place to go for the best selection of pozzies to hook up with.  Damn.

Anyway, welcome Contagion - hope you find what you're ISO while you're here.

How about setting up an unofficial small gathering at Ritz NYC forum members or anyone who wants to join. How would we recognize the ones from forum? I am Indian looking and can very easily be spotted and sometimes that could be an issue if I want to be discrete. For others not sure. I went there a while back and have been thinking about going back there. Crowed was pretty mixed and the guy who was running the event was pretty friendly.

Thanks Assb, you are correct, they moved the location from Valda to Ritz and still on Thursday evening.

Yes, the meetings at the Ritz are for SIN members- Strength in Numbers and I have gone to some in the past, not many lately although a member had a memorial get together at his apartment in the East Village for a man we lost last year.  I also went on a Caribbean cruise with SIN back in '08 and had a great time and hope to go again soon.  Perhaps we can hook up at the Ritz one evening you other NYC guys, I'm in Queens, I'm 56 and you can recognize me because I am strikingly handsome. ;)

Hey, saw this early but haven't gotten around to making an forums account. I'm 20, recently poz, and would love to make some friends in the city. I guess I can't PM yet though, but hopefully this gets to you?

Hi Mocc, welcome to the forums.

It's true that you cannot use the PM function yet - you have to have at least three posts in the public forum before you can. It's an anti-spam measure.

People will be more inclined to respond to your PMs when they already know a bit about you by reading your posts in the forum.

Why don't you start a thread in Living or Just Tested and introduce yourself? Let us know how you're doing - emotionally as well as what your numbers are looking like. We're interested, we care, and we're just plain nosy too. ;) ;D

Also make sure you check out the other sections of this website, like the Lessons and the Treatments for HIV & AIDS sections - and feel free to come back into the forums to ask any questions that may arise while you read, or any questions that may already be floating around your head.

Ann

Thanks Ann! I've spent a lot of time in the other sections, reading and informing my self... it's been such a great wealth of resources!

I finally went in to see a doctor and walked out with a primary caregiver for the time being, that was a nice sense of release seeing as I felt I was going nowhere with coming to terms with this all. I'll get around to a more formal introduction, promise!

I've been a few times.  It's a friendly group of guys, and the drinks are cheaper as well.  Josh, who runs the event, is one of the nicest guys you could meet.  He makes sure that people are mingling and not being left out.

You should definitely check it out.

It was great! Some cute guys were there. Though, sometimes its a bit harder for me to go and say hey do you want to date me or do you want to be my friend? Not sure how to get that started:)

I felt comfortable being around other HIVers. I would recommend others to check it out.
