hello everyone. Have some questions about hiv/transmission/infection. I had sex with a sex worker in poland in january. Afterwords few days later i had night sweats,  then rash on my body and sore throat, headaches, muscle and joint aches. Then i experienced a burning sensation on the shaft of the penis and it was getting red. I thought i was infected with hiv? Was scared and confused and lost.  A month after possible exposure i overdosed on anxiety and depression pills and ended up in hospital in intensive care for a week. they did a test there for hiv and it came back negative. they told me not to worry but i think they only did an antibody test since they had result same day i was told. After i got out of the hospital i experienced night sweats for few days again i was wet with sweat without actually having fewer or being hot it was like a cold sweat. I went and got tested on my own again a month later and it came back negative. I thought i was ok. But everything changed on may 9th. I started to have those night sweats again this time for a week. afterwards i developed a sore throat and my tongue got white. i went and got tested on the may 19th and it was negative(it was hiv1  home access test). I thought i was ok but the sore throat and white tongue didnt go away even though i took antibiotic(arithmericin) then I also got a purple blister/cist on my hand and few days later i got few more like that next to that one. I did a rapid hiv1/2 test in a homless shelter about a month ago and it was negative. The counselor there told me to get tested for other stds so i did. All other tests came back negative for stds. A month ago i also had a hiv-1,rna,Ultra,pcr done it came back <48nd, hiv-1 Rna(Log-10)<1.70. They gave me an anti fungal medication fluconazole for my tongue, it helped a little initially but now my tongue is gettin white again, thrush. I did a rapid hiv1/2 test at homless shelter last friday and it came back negative. I also have a feeling like my lymph noded in the neck get swollen and i can feel them. I also feel like the lymph nodes are swollen at my groin. I have that burning sensation on the shaft on my penis and skin back for about eight weeks and it gets red, especially when i masturbate it burns/gets red. i think maybe its a fungal infection becasue my imune system is weakened from hiv. I also get a sore throat on and of for about two months. My tongue is getting sores on the sides and is swollen besides being white. Here are my questions? Do you think i have hiv1 or 2? If not what else could it be.  Please help me i'm stressing about it and have difficulty sleeping at night and all i think is that i have hiv. Its been 24 weeks since my possible exposure, is it possible that my stay at the hospital extended window period or seroconversion period? It all is driving me crazy i just want to know one way or the other do i have hiv. Please help :'(

First off your symptoms came on to quick to be related to HIV. The window period is 4 weeks to 3 months if you had unprotected vaginal or anal sex you can obtain your conclusive test at 3 months post exposure.

I have an appointment to see a id doctor next week. and it was another hiv specialist that ordered that pcr hiv rna tests for me even though 5 months have passed since possible exposure. i had accyclovir perscribed to me two weeks before that test though, could it have made viral load <48 undetectable? i also have muscle twitches somethimes besides other symptoms i described. the hiv specialist told me it takes sometimes more than 6 months for antibodies to develop. thats why im scared. Plus im afraid that that hospital stay afected the window period. As i said im seeing id specialist on monday so they prob test me for hiv again  :-[ :'(. this web site gives me hope and makes me feel a little better everytime i read it and its forums

Keep things simple. If you are 5 months past the risky incident you are concerned about, any standard HIV test can be used at this point to get a reliable result.

There is nothing HIV specific about your symptoms. The medication you took would not have skewered your test result nor would a hospital stay.

6 months is outdated as a testing point unless cancer, protracted IV drug use or a health problem such as an organ transplant are involved. Otherwise a negative at 13 weeks is sufficient and reliable.

I don't see any reason to expect other than another negative result.

Mike,

There's no need to keep us posted on anything. YOU DO NOT HAVE HIV!!! The tests have already proven this conclusively. If you feel unwell, go see a doctor. It's nothing to do with hiv as you don't HAVE hiv.

You never mentioned if you had protected or unprotected intercourse. You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together. To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through all three condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

ALTHOUGH YOU DO NOT NEED FURTHER TESTING OVER THIS POLISH INCIDENT, anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results. Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

You do not have hiv and you will not be permitted to use this website to question your CONCLUSIVE negative result. Please consider yourself warned.

Im sorry i didnt mean to offend anyone or question the results its just that the doctor told me it takes up to 6 months or even longer for some people to develop antibodies to hiv(thats why im getting tested next week, possible exposure happened on the 22nd of january). When i was in the hospital  about 5 months  ago they had me injected with antibiotics and other drugs to clear my system of the anxiety and depression pills i took then, i almost died. I was in a coma for a day actually and then on iv drugs for 5 days thats why i thought it could have affected the window period. Plus ive been feeling bad with all those symptoms i mentioned above for little over two months. What bothers me the most is the white tongue with litle sores on the side that hurts, trush is a sign of hiv infection i thought. Plus the shuft on my penis gets red and has like small little blisters that could be a fungal infection and an another sign of hiv. Also I was tested for other sti's and they all came back negative but they gave me a penicilin shot and other antibiotics to(that was a month ago). Nothing is helping those symptoms though. Thats why im seeing id specialist next week, if its not hiv and other stds what else can it be? Plus i have trouble sleeping and when i wake up at 6 i normally cant go back to sleep. Once again i didnt mean to offend anyone sorry just scared and confused  :'( :-[

I dont know if i mentioned it before but i also have musle twithches on my body and my liver (lover right side of my abdomen hurts) maybe i could be infected with hepititis c and hiv thats why im not developing antibodies or maybe because of constant stress? Again dont mean to offend no one just scared and confused.   I just wish all these symptoms would go away but they dont. Sorry for going on and on about it. again didnt mean to offend anyone. Hopefully i know one way or another next week. Thank you everyone for responding and sorry again

Mike,

The only people who MIGHT take a little longer than three months to seroconvert and test postive are those on chemotherapy for cancer, anti-rejection drugs following organ transplant, or have been injecting street drugs, every single day, for YEARS.

If you feel unwell, see a doctor. Blisters on your penis sounds like herpes - but show it to a doctor as nobody can diagnose you over the internet.

Whatever is causing your problems is NOT hiv. You have conclusively ruled hiv out of the picture.

Keep posting to question your CONCLUSIVE NEGATIVE result and you WILL be given a time out.

This is your LAST warning!

Sorry for the trouble Ann.
Ive been tested for herpes and it came back negative as did every other test for stds. As for the burning penis it gets red sometimes but burns and there are almost no blisters its more like the skin is different and red where it burns. As for the hospital stay. In the hospital they injected me with drugs to thin out and clean out my blood from the overdose i was given many injections and been on a iv drugs i dont know for five days.

I wont post again unless i test positive i promise

hiv tests

does hiv1/0/2 antybody test picks up all strains of hiv which i understand are hiv1m,hiv1n,hiv10 and hiv 2.
I posted before but i fell unwell for such a long time. I have trush white tongue, dry skin(i used to have oily skin before the sexual encounter with a prostitue, she seemed to have a dry skin to0, now that i remember it.) the shaft of my penis gets red and irritated(flucozanole doesnt help for it) and is also dry. never had those problems before im 28 years old and used to be healthy as an ox.ive been or flucazanole 6 weeks ago the white tongue came back with red spots on my tongue that hurt but are coated white in the morning. im on flucazanole again for over 3 weeks and my tongue improved a little but its not cleared completely and still has red spots on a side and front of a tongue that are coated white especially in the morning. if i stop taking flucozanole the tongue would get coated again and would help. i tested negative after 6 months but still have all these symptoms of hiv and im afraid i might be one of those people who seroconvert after 6 months. trust me i dont wan hiv but im afraid thats what it might be. Im afraid i migt have picked up an hiv10 or hiv1n or some other rare hiv2. i did pcr for hiv1 but i dont think it picks up hiv1 o or hiv1 n strain from what i understand. i did hiv 2 pro viral dna and that was not detected. I even think of going to poland to do a hiv test there if they have a viral load test there for other strains of hiv since i know that eu countries have tests that pick up all strains of hiv. Need help what do you knowledgable people think. please help im scared ive been to 3 doctors and they dont know whats wrong with me :'( :-[

Mike, I have merged your threads. Please follow our rule and keep all of your entries in this same thread.

As far as HIV is concerned you are worrying needlessly. You have well and truly tested negative for HIV. So whatever is going on with you physically has nothing to do with the HIV virus.

None of your symptoms are even remotely reflective of HIV, which is not surprising since you have reliably tested negative for the virus. You need to continue discussing your physical concerns with your doctor in order to get a proper diagnosis and treatment. I would also suggest that you see a therapist or other such professional as clearly you are under emotional strain about your concerns.

This is not an HIV situation no matter what your fears and mind tell you to the contrary. Fears and self-diagnosing are not facts. Your HIV negative test result is a reliable fact.

There really isn't anything more we can do for you in this setting. Good luck in getting it all sorted out.

i am stressed out because im stuck with this problem. I know that window period is normally 3 months but i have all these symptoms and some of the doctors i went to tell me it takes longer than 6 months sometimes to develop antibodies to hiv. i i would not had all these symptoms i would not worry. As i said befoer i never had those problems before that sexual encounter. i had biopsy done on my leasions on my arm and the dermatologist siad its "granulomatous dermatitis consistent with ruptured folicculitis" he doesnt know why i got it and what caused it. since i had that encounter my skin got different i used to have acny and breakouts and now its dry and i have no acny at all, and my skin used to be smooth and oily and now is dry and flaky. The skin on my penis got really dry to and it gets red and irritated every day and even breaks up sometimes and is flaky when my penis gets erect. this and other symptoms i mentioned before have me really worried i never had them before that sexual encounter. i also had cd4 count done twice once in jully it was 527 and a week ago which was 627 thats pretty low. please help dont know what to do. is there another test that can be done to know for sure that one doesnt have any type of  hiv? what about genotype test or p24 antygen test what are these tests?
sory for ranting about this but this is really bothering me  :'(

Mike,

You do NOT have hiv.

You've already been warned about continually posting when conclusively hiv negative. I'm giving you that time out you've been warned about. Do not attempt to create a new account to get around your time out because if you do, you will be permanently banned.
