Just been diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis
« on: October 16, 2008, 03:59:39 pm »
Hi All,

I have just been diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis (UC) a couple of hrs ago. After undergoing a Colonoscopy and Endoscopy and biopsies last week, the doctor has confirmed i have UC.

I'm really pissed off. Another 3 x 2 pills to take morning, afternoon and night to deal with this disease. Its another chronic lifelong illness i have to add to the mix. I'm currently reading all about it, and it feels like when i was first diagnosed with HIV, and i had to process all this information. Its scary and approx 25-40% of people with UC have to have their stomach/colon removed due to the huge increased risk of colon cancer.

I'm just feeling really low and need to vent. I feel like my body is failing me and this is only the start of it all. Is life with HIV just a continuous episode of new medical diagnoses?!

I'm sorry if i sound like i'm throwing a self pity party - just a little peed off with the whole thing. Could of really done without another disease to deal with. I am by no means belittling anyone else problems and realise other people have it far worse, but this is my shitty story.

Has anyone else had or got Ulcerative Colitis or does anyone know much about living with it?

Thanks again to you all!

Delby  :-\

Hi,

I am not HIV+ but I do have UC.  Even though I know it's difficult try and stay calm.  I have a great support web site that I will give you tomorrow (it's on my work PC).

UC flares and goes into remission.  Sometimes you get it once and then it never shows up again.  You can very well fall into that category.  I've seen it very rarely that people have to have their colon's removed.  How much of the colon is infected?  The statistics are if the entire colon is infected for 10 years then your risk goes slightly up.

I'm sorry you have to deal with this.

Take care.  Feel free to email me.

Janice
