Reyataz and Combivir waist and weight
« on: June 29, 2007, 10:54:48 am »
I have been taking Reyataz 400mg once daily and Combivir 150/300 twice daily for the past 2 1/2 years.   Seems like I have been getting bigger in the waist, about 4 inches so far, and can't seem to take off an ounce of weight, despite regular workouts and eating less than normal now.  The weight is not much of a gain, only about 5 lbs or so, not much of a concern, but all of sudden I'm getting a growing middle.  Am 53 y.o. and wonder if this is normal with this hiv med combo?  Or is it just age?  I walk, lift weights, and do crunches 3 or more times a week for at least an hour or so minimum.  I am also taking 2 types of ace inhibitors, 325mg aspirin, zoloft 200mg,  ativan 1mg, and  lipitor 80mg daily.  Cheeks and face look somewhat thinner now.  Is lipo possible with these meds or is it age and my imagination?

Likely a combination of the first two!  While Reyataz has been touted as not promoting lipodystrophy, that doesn't mean that prolonged use.... like, how long has the stuff been around, anyway? ......won't cause body changes.

Also, I took note of your comment about crunches.  From personal experience, I can tell you that over-developed abdominals hiding beneath a permafrost-like layer of fat are going to make your belly bigger.  I was totally out of shape ten years ago, thirty pounds lighter, and with a waist four inches bigger.  Better eating and exericse got me where I am now, and that includes a waist that will never go below 35, thanks to the abs of tungsten, even if I worked off the inch of pinch atop them.  In other words, stop doing crunches, and do more long-duration moderate cardio to get off the fat so you can appreciate the muscle you have.

Cheers,
David
