ATRIPLA - only 5 day supply left - Need advice!!
« on: January 15, 2013, 07:58:13 pm »
Howdy

I desperately need some advice. Moderators if this topic is in the wrong section I sincerely apologize.

Okay here is my situation. I am currently undectable with a CD4 count of 664. I only have 5 pills left of my atripla (viraday). I placed my order with a canadian pharmacy last month (dec 21st- took a few days to process) and it was shipped on the 27th. However, my meds were shipped to a completely different address from that which they have on file for me ( I can usually track the package with a tracking number but they did not update the information linked to the tracking number until yesterday when the package was already delivered). My meds went to a totally different state! This is the first time this has happened in the 1.5 years I have been ordering from them. So I called them and the only thing they can do is reimberse me my money or re-ship the medication. I opted to have the medication re-shipped.

I have private insurance and the atripla-copay assitance program card. I called my insurance and asked if I can simply go to the pharmacy without having to use express script (drug mailing system) and she informed me that since my prescription is for a 90 day supply I should call my doctor and have him call in a prescription for 7-10 days to hold me over until my 90 days re-shipped meds come in. I did this and the pharmacy called me back and said they cannot break/open a bottle just to give a few pills and that I would have to pay for the full bottle (30 pills) out of pocket for $1900!

Aparently since the calendar year started over this month (Jan) my deductiable starts over and I have a $2500 deductible before I can have copays of just 20%. My insurance company (blue-cross blue shield - Anthem) does not want to cover any of the cost of 1 month supply! They said since I have a high deductible I have to pay full price out of pocket.

Is there anything advice on what I can do? I have never missed a dosed and I am in panic mode. I only have 5 pills left and my 90 day supply can take as long as 10 days to 2 weeks to be delivered. And they have not even been shipped yet. It is still in processing. I called to have them speed up the process as much as they can. So it may be shipped tomorrow or as late as friday...meaning I will run out of medication.

Can anyone pm me and let me know what options I have? I cannot afford to pay $1900 for 1 bottle of meds. Furthermore, I do not see how pharmacies would rather patients go without their life saving meds or force them to pay extremely high out of pocket prices because they do not want to "break" the bottle so to speak. I do not know what to do.

I do not want to go without meds for days or a week or more and possibly become resistant to the meds that are saving my life! I have insurance but it is basically useless to me at this point.

Thanks for any advice! Sorry for the long rant.
