Cause im a little bored today, what is the preferrable term to call "you guys" (<-- not meant as derogatory)?

I mean I consider myself on the cusp of Gaydom being bisexual and relatively in tune with my gay side and my gay brothers and sisters, but dont know quite where to draw that line when I am joking around, and I never want to offend but always like to be on the edge of humor (ok sometimes a tad over the edge but only cause im REALLY funny sometimes!)

Its like white people saying nigg** (im not even allowed to type it much less say it).  Is fag out of line? queer? homo? where is that line drawn that straight or even bi-guys like myself are not allowed to cross?

Thoughts?

I like fag myself knowing that a fag is a bundle of sticks used to burn witches. Homo is like homogenised milk. Queer, well any one can be Queer. Gay, I'm not always happy. Just call me by my name.

Just call me by my name. quote Rod
.......................................That was well put.  Brief and to the mark. But I think AC wants to know how to refer to us...our minority group.
For me I prefer.....
Gay Men.
and
Lesbians.

Not
queers, fags or homos etc.
Because they really are insulting words.
Ex: when drunk white trash kids drive by and yell "Hey fags" while we walk down the street.....do they first eliminate "homosexuals"   or "homos"? no ........Do they discuss the use of "queers"? no

In general gay.  However in certain circles I might use fag, queer, bitch, queen, girl.  I think it depends on who says it and the context in which it is used.  Oh,and in the rarest of occasions "boy" will be fine for me to be called.... ;)

So SCREW YOU ya old queen! would be ok?

PS
Right there was a perfect example.  Would it have been ok to use FAG instead of queen, knowing I am joking around.  Or I guess it probably depends on the person saying it and how its used......  All these labels are SO hard to keep track of.

Matty the Damned has a question. Why would you bowdlerise the word "nigger" yet feel quite comfortable spelling "queer", "fag" and "homo" out in all their glory?

Well, I use the word "fag" all the time, but only among close friends.  Though even then it's usually in a derogatory context.  I probably use the word "queen" the most, as in  "omg look at the fucking tired queen... WHAT is she wearing?"  For friendly usage I call friends "Miss" or "Missy" or the even more obscure "Missy New" the latter I'm not even sure what it means and I don't think we're supposed to.  Miss Honey, Miss Thing, Miss Girl, Miss Mess.

I never say "queer" because it's so au courant-ly politically hip and non-camp, though it used to be.  Frankly only breeders use the word "homo" though I've heard clueless queens say "homo"... mostly ones from Texas.

Of course, as many words can be read as offensive by others it's all about context.  If I were a bisexual from Kansas and so utterly un-savy as to have to even pose such a question on an internet forum I'd probably say not to use the words, assuming you only have sex with men and don't actually consider yourself part of the Gay Agenda... though like I said that's an assumption and I don't pretend to know your personal life.

My turn to say Barbara Please, when was the last time you were in Texas?  Pre- or Post-Alamo?  "Breeders" in Texas call us "Faggots."

We call ourselves many things, but rarely "Homo."  I tend to use "Pinche Pendejo Maricon" in traffic but if I was talking about someone I knew it would be "Doomed Bitch," or simply "HER!"

I think the last time I was in Texas I was 7, and got so fucking sick that I had to be taken to a hospital and have something injected in my butt cheek.  It was also horribly hot down there... I swear it's just not fit for human habitation.  I was mortified that my illness would prevent me from our visit in a couple days to Six Flags, but whatever they gave me cured me quickly... probably some sort of steroid.

Anyway, my reference was from my exposure to this AZN queen in the trendy design firm where I used to work in Manhattan.  He was from Austin and called all gay men "homos" and I had to chop her on that terminology.  Poor thing was incredibly clueless and naive, though harmless and nice to a point.  I'm not sure but he may have even shortened it at times to "mos"

Oh, and OF COURSE, I know about the latino "butterfly" terminology from my days hanging with Puerto Rican trannies down on the piers turning tricks for coin!

Queer, Gay, Faggot, I don't really dislike any of them, unless they're said with hate.

Nellie and Jessie are favourites.

The one I really can't stand is BattyMan.

Gay is the only acceptable term in my opinion. If someone at work referred to me as fag, homo, queer, etc. there would be repercussions.

btw:  I loathe the term "The Gays"... "gay" as an adjective is perfectly acceptable, but I don't like it as a noun.

Oh, I'm afraid we've all neglected the term "Nancy Boy" and "Friend of Dorothy"... always enjoyable!

Excellent question.  Social stigma associated with nigger i guess.  And I feel more "at one" with queer, fag and homo because those words could also be considered a part of me and my sexual practices.....  Makes me think!

A guy I flew with recently asked me if I was greek, I was like no, I am german.  Then he further explained himself and I was like, oh, I am dumb, yes I am greek.  He laughed.  I had never heard to it refered that way before.  Gay works for me, I guess.  Fag really bothers me even when another gay boy is using it.  I hate the word homosexual, because, I too, think of milk.

I've heard like-minded comrades using the term "rainbows", and I think that's quite cute.

Personally, I have nothing against the good ole "pervert". If you want to make a distinction, there's full throttle perverts vs. half throttle perverts. The latter are the ones who sail with steam and with wind.

I read in the newspaper today that the drummer of Sting said the lead guy performed like a "petulant pansy".  That was a harsh critique of his performance in the current tour........at whose expense?  Petuant pansys?

I read that account too.  I thought it rather amusing, but then again I always preferred Stewart Copeland to Sting back in my Zenyattà Mondatta phase circa 1980.  Sting's always been so self-absorbed.
