POZ Cruise 2013
« on: January 20, 2013, 08:01:52 pm »
Anyone going on the POZ Cruise 2013 in November?  I did a couple of them a few years ago and was thinking about doing it again this year.

The cruise is sailing out of Miami on Carnival this year.

I had a good time when I went before.  I like the ports of call on this cruise.  And it seems reasonably priced.

Hi Blixer, I remember seeing you back in '08 on the Princess cruise, that was alot of fun, I might consider it this year as well.

Looks interesting, but alas no one to go with, and not sure about the roommate connection they provide?

Would probably go if I had someone to go with and share a cabin with.  Cruises are fun.

I am sure this will be taken completely wrong, but are there 30-Somethings who go?  In the video, it seemed like men in their 50's and 60's.  Don't get me wrong, I get along with anyone.  I get made fun of for chatting up our 80 year-old neighbor.  People ask whether we are dating.  It is nice to have people in your age group as well.  That's all I'm saying.

I have never taken a cruise.  It never really appealed to me, but so many say I must take a cruise at some point.

I was a bit skeptical about cruises at first as well, until I went on one.  I had the time of my life, and that was only a weekend cruise!

I did notice the older crowd in the video as well, hence my concern about getting paired up with someone out of my age range.

From my past experience I will say there was a good mix.  Yes, it probably did tend a bit toward the over 40 as opposed to the under 40.  That may be partly because it is a POZ cruise and sometimes it is the more mature that folks that have the opportunity to do the traveling.   Just speculation there.

I will say that I've always had a good time and Paul, the travel agent organizing the cruise says he usually does a good job pairing people up.

The thing that does have me holding off at the moment though is the same concern you voice WindySkies and that's getting paired up with someone out of your age range.  If I had someone I was comfortable with, I'd go in a flash.  I may still sign up and search for a potential cabin mate on my own.  You have up until the final payment date to find one on your own.

tedinlou2--the two times I went there were some guys in their 20s and several in their 30s, although the majority were probably 40 and older.  Cruises can be loads of fun.  I love doing them!  But some people take one and never care to take another.  It's all a matter of taste and what you like.  One of my favorite parts is evening dining experience.

I am contemplating heading for the cruise. Will be alone and my second time in the US after 7 years. A bit worried I will be out of place. I am 29.

Never been on a cruise. A bit worrying that I'll be out of place.

The cruise isn't officially through Aids Meds or POZ.  It is a POZ cruise that has been organized by a travel agent over the past several year.  Usually a great group and the two times I've gone I've had fun.

I did send in my reservation.  So now I'll either have to find a cabin mate or I'll be assigned one.  I'm to the point where I'm okay either way.

Let me know if you are getting into Miami early - The port is about 1/4 mile (if that) from where I work and not too far from where I live... If you are going to be in Miami for a bit (before or after the cruise), I'd be more than happy to show you around (South Beach, etc.)..... Same goes for anyone else that may be going on the cruise.

I may have to check it out and perhaps go, since I wouldn't incur any airfare expenses....

BTW - I usually book through vacations to go - they have some of the best prices (I have booked all three of my previous cruises through them). Looks like their rates for this particular cruise are about $40-$60 lower than the poz organizers prices....

Thanks for the "show around" offer phildinftlaudy.  I have been considering spending a bit of time in Miami before or after the cruise.  I had even considered maybe trying to work in Key West.

David I miss you, the cruise sounds like a blast of fun.  Wish I could go, but already have my trips planned this year.  Disney 10 days with the kids next month, and Sturgis for Bike Week in August.  Besides Darren has severe motion sickness, so he and I won't ever be able to cruise together. You will love Key West, great time to go.  Next year we should make a plan and do Fantasy Fest the last weekend in October, you would love my group of friends.  Anyways, just wanted to send you some love, have fun.

I think the cruise will be a blase.  Enjoy Disney!  A Fantasy Fest sounds fun.  I've been to Key West, but only as a port of call. I'd love to go back and spend some time there.
