Slated to be the UK Christmas number one... (the Christmas number one is a VERY big deal in the UK)

1000 Miles Apart

Xander Rawlins is a Platoon Commander with the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards and has served in Afghanistan. His platoon is scheduled to go back for another tour in 2012 (he said this during his BBC interview this morning). According to what I've read on the net, he is "scheduled to leave the forces in the spring of 2011", but that's not what he implied when I saw him on telly this morning. He talked as though he's still in the forces and planning on returning to Afghanistan.

Profits from the single will go towards ABF The Soldiers' Charity which supports soldiers, former soldiers and their families in times of need, Combat Stress which offers support to ex-servicemen and women suffering from psychological injuries such as anxiety, depression and post traumatic stress disorder. (link)

PS... I just posted this video on my daughter's facebook wall ... and I'm crying now because it will probably make her cry. Her bf is currently in Afghanistan and will be for Christmas. He bears an uncanny resemblance to Xander (and it's not just the uniform). :-\  :'(

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts

Thanks for sharing that Ann, my nephew is over there at the moment, I worry about him so much,  I hope your daughter's boyfriend stays safe as well.
