Hi,

I am a bit concerned about a few things. I think i am feeling a lot of guilt and so been on and off with my moods.

I went to thailand and went to a massage parlor. Had unprotected oral sex and protected vaginal sex. But while having sex i thought that the condom has come off so i came out and saw that the condom only covered 50% of my penis. I then discontinued the act.

Am i at risk?

I am worried about oral sex because i think it is easy to get infected by HIV if she has any blood in her mouth because it directly touches the urethra. What do you guys think? SOme told that i do not even need testing. Has anyone got HIV this way? Any one time unprotected oral sex incidents? Do you guys agree that I am just over anxious. It happened before 3 weeks.

Oh yes, you're over anxious.

Given that the condom was covering the head of your penis, you were protected and thus not at risk of HIV infection from this encounter.

You do not need to test for HIV due to this encounter.

Thanks for your quick response.

What about oral sex, if she had blood in her mouth it could get in contact with my urethra and i can get infected. Can this happen? I did not notice any blood on me and i do not believe that i had any cuts on my penis.

I have read that saliva deactivates HIV. Is that correct? I believe there have been no such cases so the risk if at all might be small.

My mind is really going crazy. Does this happen? I just want to share if anyone has experienced this. The worried wells...

Yes, saliva inhibits HIV and the unprotected oral sex is not a problem here. No one has ever contracted HIV from receiving a blow-job and you won't be the first.

You were not at risk, you do not have HIV,

Andy and Ann, please respond. I know i should not be nervous. If HIV was so easy there would be so many people with HIV in this world but again just cannot help thinking about it...

Do you guys know positive and negative couples who engage in unprotected oral sex?

There have been extended studies -- longterm -- of sero-discordant couples, both gay and straight, who had lots of mutual unprotected oral sex and only protected vaginal & anal intercourse.

The results: not one sero-negative partner became infected.

You are worrying needlessly. And I think you know it.

Andy, Thanks for the reassurance. But only one concern, if she was bleeding from her mouth. I did not notice any blood but if her tongue was bleeding or gums and the blood would have gone to the urethra.

Is it in anyway possible or its just my mind thinking stupidly.

After this I am not going to even think about it and no testing as well.

Unless you're in the habit of punching a person in the mouth before they give you head, then you're worrying needlessly about blood in the mouth.

Not one person has ever been infected from getting a blowjob and you are NOT going to be the first.

Thank you Ann, so you are also of the opinion that I do not need testing. Thats very satisfying to know.

I know that its the guilt which is doing this and the constant fear of acquiring HIV. When I think rationally i also believe that the chances are very less of being infected but the next moment think otherwise. I think the biggest thing is searching over the net which is so wrong and I have stopped doing that. Last week I was good until Sunday but any how I will manage somehow and stop thinking about anything and just enjoy life.

Andy and Ann, I know that this is not a counselling site. But can you suggest ways to overcome anxiety.

I have had no exposure as per all experts but i have a high level of anxiety. I do not want to get into the vicious circle of testing because i know it is not required and it will take my anxiety to a higher level.

I just want to forget about it. I forget about it for a while and I am happy but when i think at all about it I am again sad.

Optimist,

A better option for you would be to see your doctor and discuss your anxiety with him or her.

See a therapist or counselor to get some support with the emotional aspects of what's going on with you. As you have noted, we can't do that kind of work with you here.

It's worth the effort to get some help. Good luck with doing that for yourself.

Thank you all for your support! Finally I think i have got a grip on myself and I have decided not to think about it or to get tested.

One final time do all your experts agree with my approach. I have semi-protected vaginal sex and unprotected oral sex.

Man, you just keep playing around with scaring yourself. You didn't have semi-protected intercourse. Yes, your condom slipped a bit but the head of your penis was covered throughout. That is protected intercourse, so stop with the drama already. Really.

I just wanted to let you know that i took my test. 34 days after the exposure and it was negative. Since most seroconvert in 22 days I think i can take this as conclusive result. Right?

Yes it's conclusive. You were never at risk, therefore it's conclusive.

You don't have HIV.
