Memorial Day Weekend is here!
« on: May 27, 2011, 06:05:24 pm »
So what fabulous plans does everyone here have? Me, I have no plans. Nada. I am a loser.

I am going to celebrate my lack of plans by eating chocolate gelato and fresh strawberries, and watching an as-yet-undetermined movie "on demand"! ::) That still leaves the rest of the weekend to sort out what to do.

Other than getting the grill going on Monday, not much planned.  I would like to go into Charleston and visit a friend who I recently found via facebook so that may happen if his schedule allows.

Chocolate gelato and fresh strawberries sounds like a plan 'P'.  I have some blackberries I need to do something with.

I originally planned to be naked right about now at the gay campground, soaking up sun and other stuff.

Alas, me Mum has broken her arm severely.  I am just kicking back and helping nurse her, hoping she remembers me if she has any pills left once this is all over.     :o

I'll be resurrecting zombie threads, perhaps visit The Club Body Center in Miami (nowadays known as Club Aqua), watch a marathon of foreign films (along with a marathon of Game of Thrones on HBO on Demand) on Sunday, and finish reading my book.  Oh, and on Monday I'm going to have a picnic at the Miami Metro Zoo with my two lesbian friends.

Now thats an idea.  Maybe I will head down to Folly Beach and get some sun on me bum.  The northern tip of the island is known for nude sunbathing and of course thats 'where the boys are'.

And there's a Korean restaurant right around the corner.  Perfect to order take out and stay in your booth or to bring your trick of the night over there for a quick and inexpensive bite.  Très romantique.

Now that sounds good!  I have not been in one of those since I lived in Northern Virginia back in the mid 80s.

We have a Five Guys around the corner for lubrication, plus you can just take five guys from the CBC and have a grease orgy. Makes for less confusion to have a continuous theme.

Ideally five chubbies or bears on the heavier side of the scale.

I'll be spending the first part of Saturday canvassing neighborhoods gathering petition signatures, trying to get our legislators to keep the money in the budget to pay for teen pregnancy, STDs and HIV prevention programs. In the afternoon, I'll be out by the pool, with a book, drinking Coronas.

then on Sunday, I'll spend the first part of the day helping a friend move into his new home. In the afternoon, I'll be back by (and in) the pool.

Catching some jazz and blues at Dizzy's Coca Cola Club TW tonight: Houston Person and Ernestine Anderson.

A date tomorrow (yah, a date) afternoon and with time afterwards unbooked "just in case"....

And reading a Thomas Perry sort of thriller with some very funny stuff in it: Metzger's Dog. Discovered Perry's quirky books recently. He has a satisfying aptitude for the devious.

Looking forward to mid-June when some DC meetings will make it possible for me to see the FOLLIES revival. Don't bother saying how gay...

My sister from Florida is coming to visit for a few days.  She arrived in a few hours.  So last night, and this morning, I have been busy playing Hazel, trying to get my place cleaned up.  (Does anybody else remember the TV show Hazel, or am I dating myself?)

Once she arrives, we will basically chill out all weekend.  I haven't seem my sister in about a year.

If you really like fresh berries (I just hate them when they are mushy. ICK), then you'll have to come visit the first part of May next year and attend our Strawberry Festival. I ate so many, in so many ways, that week that I'm surprised I didn't blow up, like Veruca Salt, into a gaint strawberry. LOL

Started my weekend last night.  Went to a friends house and went on a bike ride down to the Susquehanna River and then got drunk.

Today going to cousins house for great food and while everyone else is drinking wine (yucky) I will be drinking vodka mixed with Rita's Ice.  If you don't know, that is flavored shaved ice. I recommend the red and blue with Ketal One vodka (yummy).

Tomorrow I may go to the mountains and catch a ride on a dune buggy and play on the coal piles.  Kind of depends on how long I stay at Cuz's tonight.

Monday stay home and sleep.

Whatever you do have a great weekend.

I was to be in the "Carribeano" with my cuddle buddy but a high stakes work project has kept me stateside. :(

I will , instead, make my world famous banana pudding and fried chicken (low smother covered off stove burner with cling peaches) and bring to a friend.

 ;)

That's sounds awesome.  As someone who has acquired a reputation for making the best nana pudding, would you care to share any secrets?

If I did that it wouldn't be a secret anymore. Right?   ;)

I, however, can't resist posting a little recipe teaser though (you'll note the amounts and a few other bits have been omitted to maintain the family tradition and protect the innocent/guilty.)  ;)

First, you are already ahead of the game if you make your banana pudding from scratch (and don't use that box powder pudding stuff) because you're more in control of the ingredients and final product.

Pudding:

Aside from the usual, eggs, flour, milk, sugar, do you use whole milk, nutmeg, cinnamon and brown sugar?

Meringue:

Do you include Cream of Tartar* and powdered white sugar with your egg whites and beat fiercely for stiffness, bake to gorgeous browned peaks and crush fine a few vanilla wafers and sprinkle on top immediately after taking out of the oven?

Vanilla Wafers:

They don't make them like the old days.  The taste is a little off and not as sweet.  But still the wafers are key.

Bananas:

Ripe ones--not too stiff (green peel) or over ripe (yellow/brown peel).

It helps to cut the bananas at proper thickness and alternate layer with the wafers. You can adjust based on your preference.

Well, there you have it!  ;D

*I remember my grandmother saying that Cream of Tartar was also used in making spirits which may explain why everyone swoons and goes into an intoxicated like state of joy and happiness after eating a few spoonfuls of my banana pudding.  ;D

So change of my plans.  No coal piles tomorrow, doctor orders. Something about the chance of coal dust getting into my incision and making the infection worse.  So next best thing, bike ride with daddy.  If I'm home in time and not to hung over.  Well just home in time, hangover won't matter.  He's got a full dresser Gold Wing, might as well put a roof over it and be in a cage.

Miss Philicia, I live in New Providence, just south of Lancaster.  Born and raised here.  Imagine when I was in Colorado, no Turkey Hill ice tea, good chips, chipped beef and the worst thing was no good cheese steaks, not even any good imitations.

Ah lovely -- such fertile land too. I scored some awesome cheddar cheese from a farm near Peach Bottom via Fair Food Farmstand at Reading Terminal Market. I think at least 50% of their stuff comes from Lancaster. And don't forget your scrapple!

Turkey Hill ice tea

I miss that Turkey Hill Green Tea.  We use to get the gallon jugs of it in the summer (not too sweet and actually tastes freshly brewed).

I have an ex that lives there.  He and I use to have a few brews at the brewing company from time to time.  I enjoyed the strawberry wheat with lunch when we went there.
