Around January, I started to get a series of rashes all along my body. The rash spread to my genital area and so I decided to get tested in February. They prescribed me with permethrin cream and the rash cleared up about 4 weeks later.
My tests were negative at first but after about two weeks, they called me and told me to come in. They told me that I was HIV positive. After about a month, I went to see an HIV specialist and she informed me that my test results said my Western Blot was indeterminate, after a repeated reactive EIA HIV test.
My concern is that I've had the same sexual parter for the past six months. We've been having unprotected anal sex during this time. After I found out that I tested HIV positive, he got tested as well to which he was negative. I've had different sexual partners but before my current partner but only practiced unprotected anal sex two times, which was six months before I got tested.
So I'm wondering what are the chances that I had a false positive EIA test? What are the chances my partner had a false negative? Also, I just had new blood work done last week, so I'm waiting on those right now. Im very anxious.

What was your exposure and how long after did you test?

The last possible exposure I can think of was having unprotected anal sex with one guy in like September. I didn't get tested till the end of February.

You were given negative test results and two weeks later you were told your tests were positive. I'm sorry but that doesn't make any sense. Did you go back after your negative test results and test again?

There are several question marks in what you are reporting. In relation to the status of your current partner, he would need to test negative at 3 months after his most recent unprotected anal sex to be confident of his negative result.
Same for you. Get tested at 3 months past the most recent unprotected intercourse.
You both should be using condoms for intercourse and continue to do so until if and when you both test negative and are in a committed monogamous relationship.

Well, all my other STD tests turned out negative while they omitted the HIV results until they called me.

Hi Jae . I have to agree with all the advice you were given here , the bottom line is get tested at 3 months past the most recent unprotected intercourse .
If you do this you will know everything you need to know when you get the results .

Now that makes sense. As far as the indetermediate result, you will have to retest and I'm sure they told you that. Indeterminate is neither positive or negative.
