I woke up with wonderful news : D has taken the senate as well !
« on: November 09, 2006, 03:23:30 am »
Although the media said it was not official, they announced that the Democrats now gained power over the Senate.

Being a non-American citizen (not yet ;)) I can only say that since Bush not many Europeans are in favour of the US.
I hope the change will set through in many fields, but specially in health care for the victims of AIDS. That is what we still all are.

America ; hurray for this wonderful morning.

And let's hope that my business gets sold next.....double victory and Danny.. a bottle of FRENCH Champagne..

Gosh, I know what you mean, dear Herman!  I was pretty happy this morning as well when they announced the victory of the Dems in Virginia.  Perhaps our friends in America do not  realize (yet)  all the damage this administration has done throughout the world,  be it for the credibility of America as a civilized country; be it for the trustworthiness of its foreign policy.

Most importantly, the harm The Bush Administration has done to the bilateral relations with the European continent will be very difficult to settle in!  How can a president and his clique --- Powel, Rice, Cheney and Rumsfeld --- all of a sudden, turn centuries of commom foreign policy into the nightmare that we suffer today?  This president and some of his nazi-like ministers have succeeded in turning the whole European continent against them --- and indirectly against America.

Europe, as a whole, has always been the ally par excellence for the United States! throughout history.  It started with the colonization of the North American continent  by the Europeans, the language, costumes, independence, and sovereignty.  Europe was there every step of the way! The same thing, of course,  can be said about the U.S.'s stance regarding Europe once the U.S. became a sovereign nation...

And the most captivating example  of this "sacred" relationship between Mother Europe and The U.S.A.,  is that some of the founding fathers of the great nation that the U.S. is today lived in Europe.  In addition, they helped to establish and mold  these everlasting ties between the two powers.  Jefferson and the friendship he had with some ministers of Louis XVI and the king himself; and, Washington's wonderful relationship with the Marquis de Lafayette are just a few examples!

Hopefully, an effort will be made by both parties and the connections will remain as strong as they were before the kafkaesque cataclysm.

We are going to be so overwhelmed on the damage that they did at home!  George Bush already bought a large lump of land to escape to in Central America.

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts

This is too funny.  What kind of history books are they producing in France, for folks to have such a romantised, (and completely inaccurate), view of the colonial powers and their relationships with the US (or any other colony for that matter)?

Hey, Cliff!
I don't get the meaning of your post.  What do you mean by "romantised"?  I suppose you meant to say "romanticized", perhaps?  I'm at a loss, really.
I did understand the meaning of the other word, though.  "Inaccurate."
And the kinds  of books we have in France, are the same the Americans have --- but, in French!  The difference is that we read them.  Now, perhaps in The Republic of Texas things are a bit inharmonious in respect to  the rest of the U.S.!

P.S. This is Herman's thread and I don't wanna hijack it.  However, I could prove every single point of my post accurate.
