colorado recreational marijuana
« on: November 10, 2012, 11:11:16 am »
looks like the state will be the 'New Amsterdam'.  I will look forward to see how this works out.  I know the state will make lots of dough being able to tax it.  I just wonder how this will  open the door for other states to follow suit.

My personal opinion is why the hell not.  It would keep the police from wasting time arresting folks for something so silly.  The states themselves would benefit greatly on the tax revenue.

It'll be interesting to see how this fight plays out with the federal government.

And in celebration, a tune for the occassion.

Washington State and Colorado both legalized marijuana for personal use.

Already, the two largest counties in Washington have announced that they will immediately drop all charges for marijuana possession that are currently pending in the courts.

http://seattletimes.com/html/localnews/2019648851_marijuana10m.html

So, adults over 21 can legally possess up to one ounce of marijuana (one ounce will currently land you p to five years in jail in Florida, just a comparison).

From what's been on the news here, the federal government will not involve themselves in the portion of the law that decriminalized the drug and allows you to possess the one ounce.

The Feds may get involved in the portion of the law that regulates and taxes the sale of marijuana.  That portion of the law goes into effect in one year.  Even if the Feds get in the way of regulating the sale, the portion of the law that allows you to have marijuana will continue to be allowed.

Not only have they dropped all pending charges for anyone who was charged with possession that are in the courts, the Seattle Police Department has posted a guide to legal marijuana use on their website.

This is an Excellent move. I think it is just a matter of time before this is the norm across the US, although many many years for it to happen in the south. I'm not a Marijuana smoker but I applaud this, It is good for so many reasons...tax proceeds for the states, cut the cartels out, free up court dockets, on and on.

The feds will moan and groan for a bit, but we are moving towards full legalization eventually

Within another generation, this entire issue will be history.  Even those who don't smoke realize this isn't the "REFER MADNESS" era.  Just like AIDS, we've learned a lot through the years.

I started smoking it a while back after someone recommended it for issues I was dealing with.  I kinda went overboard for a while and now will still do it if I need the therapy affects of it.  I finally told my doctor about 6 months expecting a lecture.  He was supportive.

Edited to add:  That's probably about the time I mellowed here.   :o ;D

How about the Night Train Express and Cisco Red? Did you tell him about that?

If that was the night of excessive amounts of rum and Mountain Dew, then NO.  I'm still not even sure why I did that except I felt so "FREE".   ;D

What's wrong with this country?!  We are slowly turning into Canada with all these legal homo couples smoking pot and all that noise..lol.  Does Canada legalize pot?  I can't keep up anymore.  I've always heard KY is a great place to grow pot.  Not sure why so many say that here--whether the soil or what, but many say that.

Bill Maher was certainly happy.  He said studies show alcohol costs $200 Billion per year in law enforcement, healthcare, and things like not showing up at work.  And, alcohol kills 40,000 people per year.  And, who was against this in CO?  Coors Beer.  It does burn me up the number of people I know who are against legalizing marijuana.  I've seen all these people have several drinks and then drive home.  Of course, they are all republicans, living in that bubble.

Hey Teddy, It's the entire Ohio River Valley!  My family is from Meigs County Ohio and they have the best grown stuff around.  I've heard of it as far away as Kansas.  Not sure if you've heard of him, but I saw the Mothman...true story.

During the campaign they were advertising this would bring in $1.9 billion over 5 years in tax revenue.

Now they are hoping for "pot tourism" money.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/49774550

If the money does start rolling in you can be damn sure that all the other states will fall in line very quickly.
