Author Topic: I'm out of Norvir until tomorrow. Should I still take Prezista tonight?  (Read 2350 times)

I've been adherent to my regime since I started three or four years ago. The thought of missing stressed me out. I had a recurring bad dream about it. I even get stressed out when I don't think I ate enough food or am off my dose time by about an hour.

Today my nightmare came true. The mail order pharmacy I use is usually pretty efficient, and I've grown probably too accustomed to taking my time reorder. As long as I do it two days before I'm usually fine. Well, today it didn't show up (yes, I've learned my lesson not to leave this to last minute now). I'm on Truvada/Prezista/Norvir. Because of a pill-down-the-drain incident the Norvir runs out a day before the Prezista.

All of the things I've frantically Googled tell me missing a doze when I'm always adherent and that Norvir/Prezista have a relatively low incidence of resistance. Of course, I need every question answered. Feel free to throw cold water in my face to stop me from this freakout.

I'm going to take the Truvada tonight, but since Norvir and Prezista work in tandem should I take Prezista tonight without Norvir?

  • How am I doing Beren ?
I would take what you have ... missing a dose now and then isn't a big deal , as long as you are 95 % adherent you will be fine ... and you have been good at taking your meds so this isn't going to cause your to burst into flames or be harassed by the health department .

  • EPIC FIERCENESS!
What Jeff said ^ since you have been so adherent for so long there is very, very little to worry about. I was on your regimen for 2 years and missed the complete dose about 4 or 5 times during that period and it didn't do anything to my numbers.

Hi Personpitch, welcome to the forums.

Norvir works as a "booster" for the Prezista, so it's not going to make a huge difference to not have the booster one time. Just take your Prezista and Truvada and don't worry about it.

You would be wise to start ordering as early as you can, rather than as late as you can. By doing this you can slowly build up an emergency stock-pile so if something happens and your meds are a little late in arriving, you'll have enough meds to get you through the gap.

I also highly recommend getting a weekly pill tray. I use one that for each day, there are four compartments. I fill each one with my meds (same combo as yours) and go across the tray. One week I'm taking the meds from the morning section, the next from the noon section, and so on until I'm on the last week - the bed-time section.

Using this system will not only reassure you that you've taken your meds for the day, but it will also enable you to see at a glance when you need to reorder.

You can find these pill trays at most drug stores and you can also buy them online. They don't cost much, and are worth every penny for the peace of mind they give you.

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts
