Title: New... and a question...
Post by: RyanFL on November 15, 2006, 12:29:38 pm
Well....After reading thru this forum (especially the "am I infected thread") for the last few hours I am almost scared to ask any questions because I have noticed that a few people here seem to have a tendency to be sort of...well...just mean... but I will take the chance and hope I am posting this in the proper place. ok now that that's out of the way here is my question.

I have known I was pos since sep 2005. I have been with my boyfriend for 6 months. I told him before we ever even kissed I was positive and he was ok with it to my surprise. In the beginning we ONLY had protected sex. 2 times we didn't. A month or so ago he had a fever and didn't feel well. I didn't think much of  it but then a few weeks later I noticed swollen lymph nodes on his neck and me and him have come to the conclusion he is pos. He has yet to get tested partially because of him but mostly because of me...ok getting to the question. So if he does have it then we can have unprotected sex correct? and what if he already had HIV could I get a different strand or vice versa?   And if he does get tested and is positive is there a way to tell if he has the same hiv as me?  Thanks Ryan

Hello Ryan,

It is unfortunate that you have tested positive with HIV. As far as the meanness or "negativity" is concerned, you will pretty much see that because of many different people with different backgrounds and personalities. In fact, it is more of an emotional time for them. All you can do is support them in any way that you can. Think "positive" and not "negative". You will see that things will go so much smoother in this life.

You did the right thing by telling your BF that you are HIV positive. It is better for him to know than not to know. As far as unprotected sex is concerned, you did put him at risk of being infected. As far as his fever is concerned and swollen lymph nodes, you will want to have him go and get tested for HIV and to see a Doctor. Understand that this is a fear that he has inside of him right now because of the circumstances. The BEST thing that you can do is to comfort him and to encourage him.

If you continue with unprotected sex, you do stand a chance of a super-infection which is resistant to many of the anti-viral meds. I would strongly suggest that you continue your encounters protected. The main thing is to get him tested as soon as possible so that he will know where he stands with his health.

I wish to extend to you a warm WELCOME here at the forums. Here you will find the encouragement, communication, understanding, support, some cries, some laughter, and many of your questions relating to HIV/AIDS answered.

Talking to other people helps us see that we are not the only ones with problems. Feel free to come and vent with whatever is on your mind from time-to-time as it is highly therapeutic.

In the interim, you may want to start taking a multi-vitamin, Omega 3 and eat a diet high in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean protein, and low-fat dairy and avoid processed foods, saturated and trans fats. This will also help you maintain a healthy weight.

Exercise at least three times per week for a minimum of 30 minutes.

Thank you very much for the information. I am going to make an appointment for us both to meet with my doctor which I dread but it has to be done. Thanks again...Ryan

Hey Ryan,

Just breathe deeply and think on the positive side of things and you will be fine. Just watch it as the story unfolds.
