Blood work on Thursday (08/16)
« on: August 14, 2012, 03:02:07 pm »
In the last year my T-cell count has gone from 246 to 285 to 470 to 310 to 464 to 352. Is it normal to be sweating what the new numbers will be? I am on Atripla and genetics of High Cholesterol run in my family so I know cholesterol medication is soon to come. I am just kind of sweating new blood work and wondering if other out there get freaked out when it is time to get poked?

1) I never worry in advance of blood work. I figure if I've popped all of my pills there's nothing more I can do, and my numbers will be what they will be.

2) Why are you worrying anyway? Because your numbers fluctuate instead of being upward each and every lab count? That's not the way to look at it. If I, for example, took the average of your last four tests that would give me a number of 400. If you compare that to where you began then you've had a respectable increase of 150 in a 12 month period. There's no logical reason for you to lose any sleep over your numbers.

Miss this is true. I guess like everyone I want my numbers to climb. I do not drink, smoke or do drugs other than wacky tabacky=) I surf, I run marathons not like thse are reasons why I should be climbing but I would hope to see the results. I have to give it time.  I have no idea how long I had this before I found out and started taking meds.

But your numbers have climbed as I explained. What were you hoping for in 12 months? An increase of 500? Based on what -- numbers you see in other people's posts here?

I think your expectations game is what needs to change. The no drinking/no smoking/no drugs has nothing to do with increasing your cd4 count. Limiting alcohol intake is good for liver function, no smoking is good for your lungs. Marathon running is good for your heart.

The bottom line is that your unrealistic expectations are based on faulty thinking and causing you unnecessary anxiety, and are not productive.
