Madonna & Mariah still have a long way to go!
« on: April 17, 2008, 02:25:38 am »
Yes, Mariah did just pass Elvis with more number 1's on Billboards 100 with 18 and Madonna now has more top ten hits with 37th but ...

The Andrews Sisters became the best-selling female vocal group in the history of popular music, setting records that remain unsurpassed to this day:

between 75-100 million records sold from a little over 600 recorded tunes.

113 charted Billboard hits, 46 reaching Top 10 status (more than Elvis Presley or the Beatles).

17 Hollywood films (more than any other singing group in motion picture history).

So don't forget to give them a toast the next time you enjoy a rum & coke. :)

Thanks for sharing the clip, Jan.  I've always liked them.  I like the Bette Midler version too.

As Always Thanks for the Hugs and I send them right back to you!

I've never been a fan of The Andrews Sisters, Mariah nor Madonna.  I did like Madonna's book 'Sex' though.

I preferred Madonna's earlier stuff but did like Ray of Light, Mr. DJ, and a few others. Mariah, every now and then she has one I like. I like the one she has out now, Touch My Body, I think it is called. Uh, Andrew Sisters is before my time though I do know who they are and not so much their songs.

Elvis, well, liked some of his music, more his movies but the younger Elvis, not the overweight jumpsuit Elvis.

I'm actually just a little bit younger than you are but I just born old.  I love Gershwin & Cole Porter.  I used to tell people that if a song came out after 1980 I probably haven't heard of it.  I'm getting a little better now.  I liked Elvis, but my heart belongs to The Supremes!  Mary Wilson being my favourite.

I can understand Madonna's career a lot more than Mariah's.  Madonna has taken risks, gone into different directions, and I have about a dozen of her songs on my iPod.  Mariah, on the other hand, has one song after another sounding the same.  Funny, her first single "Vision of Love" blew me away but I couldn't tell the difference between her next 17 or whatever #1 songs.

When I think of the women who rose to prominence in the 80s, I'd much rather listen to Cyndi Lauper, Joan Armatrading or Annie Lennox.

But it would be showing my age by admitting the first 45 I ever owned was "Downtown" so I won't...
