This kid is making me nuts...a total vent session
« on: December 27, 2007, 07:35:48 pm »
Why in tarnation I volunteered for this kid to spend the night I have yet to figure out!  I understand he's had a crap life, I understand he's going through an adjustment period, I understand he's never spent the night here, and I understand that he's family, but this kid is making me absolutely nuts! I told my hubby and he was no help.  He just said, "bless his heart" ( I'd prefer to smack his butt!) and then told me all he needed was a positive female role model.  Yeah, well, he should've picked a different time of month.  He's a cutie pie and a honey, but he comes from a house with no rules. (His 9yr old brother was allowed to go see "I am Legend" by himself yesterday).  I'm trying to be patient but he's trying my patience!  Would it be totally evil to slip a couple Melatonin in his cookie?  And if he goes rolling through my kitchen on his heelies one more time, I'm throwing them out the door!

Oh, and he's a tattle tale and a yeller.  Everybody who breathes in a way that offends his sensibilites he has to run up here and offend mine!  He's chosen to aim his arrows at our #4 who is 5 1/2 and autistic...and a screamer who can't take the yelling.  Oh, my aching head :o

It's called beat his ass and place his little ass in the freezer. A couple hours should cool his jets. I've got other ideas but I don't want you to go to jail. Mini needs her mom.  :D

Oh dear mum,

Tie him to a chair and put him in a corner or something!  No, seriously, I really couldn't tell you exactly what to do with him.  Hopefully he'll crash soon and go home early tomorrow so you won't have to deal with the insanity anymore.  Just don't volunteer to do it again-I'm sure you've learned your lesson. ;)

yeah, we sent them all to bed - did the whole sleeping bag, sleepover thing and he started crying that he missed his mom (who is in another state in jail), his dad, and his brother (I guess he doesnt' care about his sister - but what self respecting 7yo brother does ;)).  So, I sent hubby in to deal with him.  We tried the nightlight thing, then we tried the talking thing, then he did what any male would do.  He brought them into the living room and put on a football game.  Oh, well, at least he's quiet.  The whole reason we suggested he come over is because our oldest went to spend the night with the 9yo.  BUT, our #1 is pretty easy.  He's OCD and a nervous, anal, perfectionist, but he's a good kid who obeys rules and understands consequences.  Anyway, he was going there, and since our ds2 is 8 and never had a sleepover, we suggested that we would take cousin for the night.  He always seemed to be a reasonable kid.  But, boy, oh, boy, oh, boy...it'll be a while before we do this again.

As I live and breathe and post, this kid is sound asleep.  Football has the same affect on me!  Now the dillema is: do we move him off the livingroom floor and risk startling him awake, or do we leave him on the floor and risk him waking up some time in the night because he's not comfortable.  I'm voting for moving him - football is still on if he wakes up :).  I'm off to take a long hot shower and a fist full of advil.

you crack me up.  Do what my mother did.  My mother had 6 boys in 7 years.  She just tuned us all out.  She always had a scotch before dinner, then another one after dinner and she was fine.  If my father wasn't helping us with our homework, he was asleep on the couch.  Being that we were all more or less grouped together, their philosophy was that each of us would take care of the one younger than us.  I was the baby of the family, so I didn't have to take care of anyone.  But then all I ever got was hand-me-downs.

I don't have kids though I am very close to a friend who has 3 young ones and I spend a lot of time with them. They teach you a lot about yourself. One of your posts was illustrative.

"yeah, we sent them all to bed - did the whole sleeping bag, sleepover thing and he started crying that he missed his mom (who is in another state in jail),

This kid has issues because his family has issues. He needs love and patience, which I know can be hard. The best you can do is show him that his situation is not the norm, and what a loving caring family can and should be like.

Speaking from personal experience.

All the best.

Robert,
wow, 6 boys!  We had friends with 5 boys, but not sure about the age range. We had our 6 in 6yrs 9mths beginning to end with no multiples.  We have other friends w/ 6 boys and a very close friend with 15 kids!  We like to hang with them cuz we get a group discount ;D.  Anyhow, yeah, this little guy has loads of issues, the least being that he's never had rules.  He's used to getting what he wants when he wants and that's not how things work in this house.  He's now awake and hubby is making his favorite breakfast - pancakes - then we'll take him back home. No alcohol in the house...lol, so I'm stuck with decaf peppermint tea and a very long hot shower (and a fist full of advil).

hi Mum

When god said "gather all the children unto me" he soon realized he couldn't cope so he invented "Mothers, Grandmothers and Aunties".. ;)

Sounds like you survived the night..as mums we always want to help, but sometimes we just have to learn to say NO.

Lesson learnt.

Little man is now safely tucked back home with his grandparents (my aunt and uncle).  He begged to go shopping with us, so (sigh) we took him.  As long as we kept him moving, he seemed to do OK. I put hubby "in charge" since he's angry at all women at the moment and could care less what i had to say. Then, we went to Ryan's for lunch and i had a small altercation with the cashier, but that's another story for another thread.

It's times like this that I am reminded of episode 2 of Queer Duck, "Fiddler On The Roofie" where Queer Duck babysits his young nephew, Lil' Lucky. Ohhhh, I do so miss Queer Duck.  ;D

(Click link below and when page appears, select the "episode" link near the bottom left of the screen. On the following page, select Episode 2 in the upper right-hand corner. Once the video is done loading, click "Play Movie".)
