uh  one time I was dating this older negative guy and he bought me that book....he also started making suggestins and asking about what I was eating and maybe check into certain type of vitamins.

That really creeped me out. My health and journey with this disease is mine, and I needed to come to a point where I was ready to take charge of it. I didn't appreciate how he was wanting to "take care of me"    After two months of dating I told him so long.

Too bad, you should have read the book .It might have helped you with anger issues and taught you how to cope sooner. But as long as you have the book, it's never to late to start. You might want to update to the fourth edition.

Miss P,

Abusive and foul language ( even in Urban French) is juvenile. I guess it's you that "results" to insults.

I'm done playing with you and your posse. It's time some people grew up!

ps: Sharkie, I liked your Icelandic. However, books can sometimes help you find whats inside you.

My comment was aimed at Doxie dear -- she loves when I talk dirty to her.  Don't be so paranoid.

So Doxie likes to be talked to, by you , like this:

"Fermes ta gueule, ostie trou de cul! (shut your trap, fucking asshole)."

So I guess foul language is OK on this forum for some posters. Do all the moderators agree?
I find it pretty rude and crude. Quite a few members find you rude. I guess 10000+ posts in three years gives you special status.

I'd like to hear from the moderators.

Dear miss P if you and Doxie want to talk dirty to each other please do it in your own threads..thank you for your cooperation.

Veritas  bad language is not tolerated here when it is directed at someone in anger or as an intentional insult, if you look back through some of the posts swearing is a way with some folk, in some cases it's the only way a person can express themselves.

Also this kind of post makes you looks like you are stalking philly..not a good idea, and if I may say so it does sound a little paranoid, he could have been sending a message to anyone...I think it's best you two stay away from each other.

anniebc,

Paranoid isn't in my vocabulary and stalking Miss P would be a joke (he got caught quite by accident0).
I'm quite capable of defending myself in more ways than one and I fully understand the transparency of your post.  I guess some members are a little more equal than others.

Perhaps when you ask your members for revenue relief in the future, equality should be on the agenda.

Hello everyone, this is my first post here.  First of all, I think the basic question--which has already been asked--is, whether a poz person who has more than, say, 500 or so t-cells (or three or four hundred?) is significantly different, from this point of view, from a neg person.  Ann said--and this sounds reasonable to me--that people with t-cell counts under 200 should worry; others said that the number should be changed to 500.  Why?  Is someone with, say, 500 or 450 at significantly greater risk than a negative person?  I sense a "the only risk is no risk" mentality floating about, but how is that different from what a neg person can and should decide for himself?

I personally eat raw beef and fish and egg yolks with some frequency.  But in fact the nutrition guides that I trust--which are certainly not aimed at poz people--suggest certain precautions in eating such things.  First and most importantly, know your source.  Eggs or meat from a clean traditional farm will have very little likelihood of hurting you.  Eggs or meat from a factory will hurt you however you cook it, in the long run.  Secondly, they suggest freezing the meat for about two weeks before eating raw, which will kill any malignant bacteria that might be present.  As for fish, they recommend marinating and lacto-fermenting fish (as with ceviche or Thai fish sauce) before eating.  In fact, sashimi is not a traditional food at all.  It is an attempt to imitate a traditional fermented fish that Japan somehow picked up from Southeast Asia in the early modern period.  The vinegar in sushi rice is an attempt to mimic the sourness naturally produced by fermentation.

I do not always follow even all of these precautions, however--I'm certainly not going to say no to the occasional sushi dinner!--and my own testimony is that after more than five years of being poz (with t-cells hovering between five and eight hundred) I haven't even had a cold or flu the whole time.

We have to consider relative risk, do we not?  In an age when people eat factory-produced foods without a thought, and when "normal" meat comes from animals eating the wrong diet for, then fed antibiotics, to get scared over a steak tartare or a camembert from a good traditional farm is putting the emphasis in the wrong place.

A few random notes--I agree with everything that risred1 has said.  So great to see common sense!  But don't discourage your friend from refusing to have the nutrisweet; he's right about it.  After all, we cannot do everything, but that doesn't mean we should do some things.  He may not be able to give up cigarettes; all the more reason not to add further carcinogens to his diet!

Someone wrote: "There's a Chinese restaurant that we frequent every week. And they have the "warning sign" placed at the Sushi counter..."

I think the sushi counter at a "Chinese" restaurant would interest me about as much as the burritos at an Italian restaurant.  In fact I think probably I'd give the whole restaurant a miss.....

Someone said: "These would include brie, camembert, roquefort, bleu, etc. Also, check the labels and make sure the cheese is made with pastuerized milk. If not, I wouldn't buy it."

Fact is, any brie or camembert--and certainly any roquefort--that IS pasteurized is not worth eating, period.  Sorry, but that is like plastic food.  Unfortunately, we're not likely to have that problem in this country, with the first two of the above-named cheeses at least.  Any real (unpasteurized) cheese aged for less than six months is illegal here.  So, since roquefort is aged, we can find real roquefort, and cheddar etc., but real brie or camembert has to wait for a trip to France or the occasional shipment that manages to get passed the border.  (It took me years to figure this out!  I remember an amazing St. Marcellin in France; when I found some here in the U.S. I was thrilled, but it ended up just not tasting great.  What was the problem?  Were they cunningly keeping the best stuff for themselves?  It turned out it was a simple case of pasteurization.)

Someone wrote: "any fish or meat that is uncooked carries the possibility of food bourne illness"

This is true as far as it goes.  What it leaves out is the fact that any fish or meat that IS cooked still carries the "possibility" of food-bourne illness.  The word "possibility" is dangerous in these conversations.  How great is the possibility?  How do we know?

Finally, add me to the list of people deeply suspicious of irradiation.  If bacteria and molds do not attack food that is irradiated, might that not be because the food is not longer worth eating?

Sally Fallon writes:

"Irradiation-induced changes include the formation of free radicals, alterations and cross-linking of nucleotides in DNA and RNA, the enhancement of lipid peroxidation and formation of ben-pyrene quinone, formation of formaldehyde and formic acid from sucrose and the conversion of nitrate to mutagenic nitrate.  When water is irradiated billions of extremely reactive free radicals are formed.  Kirlian photography, a method of photographing the energetic patterns of a substance, shows that fresh fruits and vegetables shine with light radiating out an inch or more in an aura with vibrant patterns.  In contrast, irradiated food has virtually no halo and significantly altered patterns.  Children fed irradiated wheat developed extra chromosomes in their white blood cells; and animals fed irradiated pork or bacon demonstrated decreased growth, decreased survival of progeny and increased cancer....Irradiated seeds will not sprout...."

That last should be significant to anyone trying to eat live foods.  The sooner we get over our idea that we can conquer nature, and that the more artificial stuff we do to our food the safer we'll be, the better.  The trick to health--to the degree that it depends upon nutrition--is simple: eat natural foods in traditional ways.  Eat only foods that will spoil--but eat them before they do.
