Welcome to the "Do I Have HIV?" POZ forum.

This special section of the POZ forum is for individuals who have concerns about whether or not they are HIV positive. Individuals are permitted to post up to three questions or responses in this forum.

Ongoing participation in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum (posting more than three questions or responses) requires a paid subscription, with secure payments made via PayPal.

A seven-day subscription is $9.99, a 30-day subscription is $14.99 and a 90-day subscription is $24.99.

Hello, first I would like to say thank you for the service you provide. I think you are all wonderful people.

I don’t know what is wrong with me. I have been worried that i am infected for a year now..I had sex with a guy 10 months ago, i think protected, but wasn’t sure because I was very drunk .
So last week I tested and the result was negative. (thank god)
But 2 weeks before the test i did something stupid.I gave a hand job to someone that he had a lot of precum .then I realized that I had a cut at my finger that wasn’t completely healed and a hangnail .so I am still worried .how much is the risk from his precum touching my cut?it was not bleeding but not well closed.

Also, I read on many sites that there is a 5 percent that a negative result could be a false negative even if someone is infected and out of the window period.and that someone should be tested 2 to 3 times for a definite negative result.That scared me a lot.
Then how can we be sure for our results?
Do you think that I need to retest?and what is my risk?

Bella,

Giving someone a handjob even if you have a cut or hang-nail and they are HIV positive is not a risk for HIV transmission. Your negative result is conclusive.

We cannot account for information on other sites, but I can tell you that the 5% figure you cite is utter bullshit.

Based on what you've reported, your HIV negative test result is a valid and reliable one. The other question you're throwing into the works is totally irrelevant and not a risk.

However, there is something important for you to be aware of and that is mixing casual sex and excessive drinking is a very dangerous combination. You've scooted by safely this time, but you need to wake up to how much you're risk putting yourself in the kind of situation you've described. Have all the sex you like and with whomever you like. But do it with a clear head and always making sure that your partner is wearing a condom. They do the job of protecting you and with a condom in use the HIV status of your partner(s) doesn't matter. You're protected.

Thanks a lot for the answers.
Yes i have learn my lesson,and i wont do this anymore,very stupid i know.
I am with someone else now who tested negative(I saw his results) and want to be sure that i am not infected so we could not using condoms.

Here is the link for the false negative results http://www.webspawner.com/users/hivtest/. It is very scary.please tell me is this inaccurate?

Do you really think that there is no reason for me to retest,even with the handjob issue and my cut?

I don't see any HV science-based reason to doubt the validity of your negative results.

Just make really sure of the solidity of the monogamy in your relationship on both parts before giving up using condoms.
