Anyone have kids?
« on: January 17, 2007, 12:39:13 am »
Hey everyone!

I am in a poz/neg relationship. I the female is poz, my man is neg. We have been together 3 years now. We found out I was poz in the first year of going out. We are still together and very happy. We know we want to spend the rest of our lives together. I just wanted to get some feedback from some of you out there regarding children. Do you have any? Did  any female with aids have a child planned? If so, can you explain how you did it, if your child is okay and neg. How pregnancy was, I hope you guys kinda get what I am trying to ask here... :-\

If this is too personal to dicuss yuou can pm me.

Thanks,

Seven

I am currently in discussions with my new wife about kids.

There are TONS of good sites available some of them on this site in previous posts.  I hope someone can drag them up for us.

For us its a sperm washing issue but for you it will be more med related.  You stand a VERY good chance of delivering a healthy baby with no nasty virus tagging along for a ride!!!

Long story short...its VERY doable.

thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming--WOW! WHAT A

Seven,

I don't have kids right now, but I have discussed this with my doctor.  I am female and HIV+ and my bf/fiancee (long, but happy story) is negative.  There are a lot of options but it boils down to artificial insemination and changing my meds (from Sustiva/Truvada) to something else.  Also I believe that the baby may need to have a course of AZT once its born.  Once we get closer to the time, I will be getting more details, but I have been given every confirmation that positive women can and do have hiv negative babies all the time.

There is another member on our site that is currently pregnant. I cannot recall her name at this time. However, AC is correct that there is a lot of information that is available to you regarding this subject matter. While looking in the right places, you will find that in which you are looking for.

Hi Seven,

You may wish to visit www.thebody.com especially, its forums for women (http://www.thebody.com/Forums/AIDS/Women/).  These questions are addressed there routinely.  Certainly, having kids is possible... a lot depends on your VL and your meds (e.g., no sustiva, preferably undetectable  VL, C-session, etc).  Another good advice is to seek a ObGyn who specializes in high-risk pregnancies, and preferably those with HIV+s.

re sperm-washing contact - www.duncanholly.org or www.columbiaivf.org

Hope all works out well for you.

I found out I was pos when my daughter was 10 months old.  I'm pretty sure I was positive when I was pregnant.  Today, she's 13 1/2 and negative.

Looks like you have some great information happening here :) Good luck in your research!!!
