Title: the unluckiest?
Post by: theunluckyiest on January 10, 2010, 08:53:35 pm
On the 13th of December I saw an escort for a handjob, due to my job being hectic, this is the first contact I've had in years.  She was going to use the hotel lotion, but I insisted that spit would be better, since I thought there was a very low chance of catching anything.   I took a Viagra pill before going, this increased blood flow to the genitals, although I do not understand if this translates into an increased risk.

Since I had taken the viagra pill, the whole ordeal lasted longer than usual, about 25 minutes or so, with a lot of spit being used, she was basically spitting it directly onto the head of my penis, right around my urethra, and she also agitated the urethra from rubbing her hands and palm over it.  I am circumsized btw.  I know what most of your answers will be, but from what I have read, it sounds like there is a very remote possibility, not based off stats, but based off theory, that I have been infected.

I honestly wasn't the least worried at that point.  However, From Dec. 19th-25th, I experienced flu like symptoms with chills, fever, and alot of fatigue.  I was beginning to think I had contracted mononucleosis from her.  Then the symptoms went away.  Now, for the past day, and as I'm writing this, I am running a very very slight fever 98.8-98.9, just enough to make me uncomfortable, and my lymph nodes are swollen...

She didn't look unhealthy, and was well kept, and kept herself very safe during the whole ordeal, but I know that doesn't really mean anything.  She is also well-reviewed by other people who see her, and no complaints or reports of anyone else catching HIV or any type of STD from her.

I know stat wise, that there is 0 possibility of contracting HIV, however, knowing the mechanics of the virus, as some of you may, do you think it is a good idea to get tested based on this experience?

Many thanks in advance.

The,

Chill out already. You have not had a risk of hiv infection by any stretch of the imagination. Guess what - it's cold and flu season. See your doctor if you feel unwell, it's nothing to do with hiv.

HIV is a fussy virus which is difficult to transmit. Unprotected anal and vaginal sex, sharing contaminated needles and syringes and from HIV positive mother to an unborn infant are known modes of transmission.

You can't contract HIV from copping a handie and having someone gob on your knob. Never has happened never will. You do not need to be tested from what you describe in your OP.

What you do need to do is take the time to read our Welcome Thread (http://forums.poz.com/index.php?topic=220.0) which contains links to our lessons on HIV transmission.

You should also be aware that symptoms are irrelevant when it comes to assessing HIV risk. Your fever is not HIV related.

Ann, MtD, many thanks for your timely response.

How can you be sure though, if there was a trace of blood in the saliva, that i did not have a risk?  Saliva is known to be a carrier fluid of HIV, although I know how it interacts with the virus to prevent transmission, but wouldn't it be possible that a single cell was not protected and somehow found its way into my bloodstream?  I guess i haven't ever really seen the virus interact with human cells under a microscope, but I would have to imagine there could be a chance.

The advice we give is based on almost 30 years of peer reviewed science. There has never been a case of HIV being transmitted in the manner you describe, what's more there is evidence which explains why that is the case, the inhibitory effects of saliva on the virus being central to that.

You really are over-egging this pudding. You were not at risk of HIV infection from the encounter you describe and you do not need to be tested for HIV as a result of said encounter.

I hope you guys are right.  I checked the stats here, and it seems like an impossibly low chance that I would have run into someone with it in the first place (hispanic female), so add that onto the impossible chance that I contracted it from the method used, and it makes it an even lower probability.

Just don't know why I'm feeling this way, I never get sick, and never have anything as subtle as whatever this is.

Anyway, assuming this is a scare, or even if it's not, it has changed my life.  Do any of you recommend certain charities or research firms that you can donate to?  I can't think of many better causes.

Thanks again.

You know what? I'd be grateful if you'd adjust your attitude just a touch. HIV is not concerned with who people are rather it's focussed on what they do.

The fact that the woman involved in your sexual encounter is Hispanic is entirely irrelevant and that sort of insensitive, passively racist rubbish isn't acceptable in these Forums.

This isn't a "low risk" situation, it's a "no risk" situation. You were not at risk of contracting HIV and you don't need to be tested.

I certainly didn't mean to offend you Matty, I was just quoting the statistics from the Profile of HIV/AIDS in Dallas County, 2007 statistical study.  http://www.dallascounty.org/department/hhservices/services/stdhiv/documents/DCHHSHIVAIDSProfile2007_001.pdf (http://www.dallascounty.org/department/hhservices/services/stdhiv/documents/DCHHSHIVAIDSProfile2007_001.pdf)
I did not intend for that to come across as racist, but I do apologize for offending you.

There's an old saying about "lies, damned lies and statistics".

I appreciate that you may not have intended to sound bigoted, but the blanket suggestion that Hispanics are more likely to transmit HIV than other groups is simply not correct. You are reading the statistics you "quote" wrongly.

What we need to consider here is not some random data from Dallas County circa 2007 you've managed to dredge up, but rather the facts that pertinent to your situation.

Those facts are that you engaged in behaviour that is not a risk for HIV transmission. It follows, therefore, that you do not need to be tested for HIV. Do you see how that works? The sexual encounter you had would not have placed you at risk even if the woman involved was HIV positive. Her ethnicity, just like her HIV status is neither here nor there.

My considered advice to you is that you let this go.

Matty,

You may have misread my post, "I checked the stats here, and it seems like an impossibly low chance that I would have run into someone with it in the first place (hispanic female)"
Meaning there was a very low chance out of that population, which is what the data says.

Thanks,

As far as this experience is concerned it wouldn't have mattered if the woman whom you were with was HIV+ positive because nothing you or she did put you at risk for HIV transmission.

Period.

End of story. Get on with your life. And make sure to use condoms if you have intercourse (vaginal/anal) because those are the only confirmed risks for the sexual transmission of HIV.
