Atripla with Insurance

Hi everyone. I'm new to this community and I want first to say say hello. I have been reading here for a few months and decided I should be a part of this.

I'm searching for a few answers...

First, my boyfriend tested positive for HIV about one year ago, before I had met him. We started dating in January of this year and he disclosed his HIV status to me when we first met. I knew from the start of the situation. I am negative for HIV, but I am about to get tested again (2nd time since we've been together).

He's starting meds soon, Atripla, actually. He goes to Cleveland Clinic and has amazing doctors and people working to help him. He's also just changed jobs and thus insurance companies. He now has Cigna and he and I are searching for resources that might give us some indication of what it could cost for him to take Atripla, after insurance of course. I am aware of the high price tag on just a 30 day supply of Atripla before coverage.

Does anyone who has Cigna take atripla, and could you tell me what you pay? I know there are more details that I could ask or provide, but I think just getting a general idea would be useful for now. If it helps, we do live in Ohio.

I think that's all I have. I'm sorry if this should have been posted in the Someone I Care About Has HIV forum, but I saw that a lot of people in this subforum are talking about Atripla.

Edit: and if it helps, I DID search this forum up and down for answers to this question before I posted. I didn't see anything concrete on a co-pay or cost for anyone with Cigna insurance.

I would imagine that it depends what particular coverage one has under Cigna (it's not like everyone under Cigna has the same type of policy). Policies vary within an insurance company and the best way to find out what your partner's policy covers is to look at the specifics of that particular plan. Most insurance companies allow you to do that online these days. I know that with my plan (Oxford) I can go online and see what meds are covered and what co-pay I would have etc.

Having said that, there is also an Atripla co-pay assistance program that he may qualify for:

Bristol-Myers Squibb and Gilead Sciences: Atripla Co-pay Assistance Program—covers Atripla; for high co-pays only. Patient responsible for first $50 plus any amount over $250. If healthcare provider does not have card, patients can call toll-free 1-866-784-3431 and one will be mailed to them.

My insurance is Cigna and my co-pay was $50 per 30-day supply at the pharmacy    However, I signed up for CIGNA's Tel-Drug Home Delivery Program and the price dropped to $33 per 30-day supply if you buy a 3 month supply up front.  That side, Inchlingblue is right in that your partner should get the specifics of his particular plan.
