Spelling
« on: February 11, 2007, 06:21:39 pm »
This is without any doubt the most misspelled word in this forum, gay.com or just about anywhere else:

DEFINITE/DEFINITELY.  It is not: definate/definately.

I have huge problems with spelling and typing.  French is a breeze compared to English.  Thank god for the spell checker.

you are definitely correct Ernie.....that one is one of my pet peeves.

I learned to spell it in elementary school by remembering DE  and FINITE

and I learned how to spell "separate" by remembering "there's a rat in separate"

I tend to go slightly nuts over the you're/your thing.

And their/there/they're.

And two/to/too.

And effect/affect.

English, motherfucker!  Do you speak it?

Noticed on the lable for my ARV's

SIDE EFFECTS: Diarrhea, headache, nausea, vomiting, weakness, rash, and trouble sleeping may occur. An occasional lapse in the ability to spell common English words may be pronounced.   Punctuation, well you just fucked there.  If these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor. Tell your doctor immediately if you have any of these serious side effects: increased thirst or urination, blurred vision, swelling, stomach pain, chills, joint or muscle pain. Tell your doctor immediately if you have any of these unlikely but serious side effects: leg pain, mouth sores, persistent sore throat or fever, weight loss, mental/mood changes, trouble breathing, vision changes, urination problems, decreased sexual ability. Tell your doctor immediately if you have any of these highly unlikely but very serious side effects: severe stomach pain, yellowing eyes and skin, dark urine, persistent fever, fatigue. Changes in body fat may occur while you are taking this medication (e.g., increased fat in the upper back and stomach areas, decreased fat in the arms and legs). The cause and long-term effects of these changes are unknown. Discuss the risks and benefits of therapy with your doctor, as well as the possible role of exercise to reduce this side effect. This medication may cause an increase in cholesterol or fat levels (triglycerides) in the blood. Cholesterol and triglyceride testing should be done before taking and occasionally during treatment with this medication. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more information. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Hmm... we say it from time to time.  Older residents definitely say it a lot... but people 40 and under... not so much.  It's not institutionalized in any way... not like in Atlanta when they spelt out "How ya'll doin'?" with cheerleaders or something during the opening ceremony of the 1996 Olympics.  We'd be more likely to spell "Get the hell out."

Since we're in a thread about SPELLING.......please allow an anal retentive southerner to correct the spelling of "Y'all".

it's Y'ALL, with the contraction replacing the "ou" in "you all"

Y'all come back and see us, ya hear?

(yes, I know "ya" is not a word, it's a colloquialism)
