I posted on the old forums, but those have all been deleted... right? Is it okay to start a new post here for a question?
I had a quick blood draw done at my local Health Department a month or so ago, and it was negative. They said it would take about twenty minutes, but is felt like less (10-15). Now I'm wondering if the results were accurate.
If it were positive, would it have shown up right away, or would it have taken the full 20 minutes to turn positive? I don't know if anyone here can answer that, but I would appriciate it greatly either way.
I haven't had any risky sexual encounters since then, so can I put this behind me, or test further?

If you tested at least 12-13 weeks from that date of an episode of unprotected anal or vaginal sex then, yes, the result is accurate. Please read our Welcome Thread.

Thank you Matty for answering my first post.

Since the last time I posted, I had one final test- an oral fluids test ater 6 months, and it was negative. I calmed down for awhile, but I've been getting sores on the roof of my mouth recently, and I've been doubting my test results.
My dentist diagnosed me with herpes- which I know is NOT rare, but I don't think I have ever got a fever blister on my lips (which she said was rare). For about a year now (right after my possible exposure- aggressive oral sex (he aggressively pushed my head down) I've been getting sores on my mouth (which aren't canker sores, as I get them ,and know what they look/ feel like... as well as the fact that the dentist said they were herpetic)
I am really worried. Everything I've read says how rare intra-oral herpes are, and suggest they occur in HIV. The dentist said that she usually sees them in children who have their primary outbreak ,and not much after then.
I wanted to ask about the correlation between intra-oral herpes and HIV, and also about seroconversion after 6 months. Is it possible?
I thank you for your time. I really adrmire your patience in dealing with worried people like myself.

You are reliably HIV negative. Whatever is you find wrong with yourself is not related to HIV.

Seroconversion after six months does not happen.  There is NO correlation to intra-oral herpes and HIV.  A correlation would indicate that the two are linked and they are not.  Correlation does NOT imply causation. In general terms, some people have HIV, some people have Herpes, some people have both.  One doesnt cause the other.

Sally, I'm just joining the chorus to say that whatever is going on in your mouth has nothing to do with HIV. You have reliably tested negative. No further testing is needed and you even went overboard with that. A negative at 13 weeks after a risky incident is reliable.

If you're not getting a satisfactory explanation from your doctor then get a second opinion. A lack of an explanation doesn't by default mean it's HIV, even if your head keeps saying otherwise. You're HIV negative. Period.

You guys are awesome. I think I just need that drilled into my head. If I have any future worries over this, I think that I'll seek therapy. I'm having trouble letting go of the fear. Things going on with my body (herpes) just fuel to fire, but you are right, it's time for me to stop attributing them to HIV. I appriciate you answering my questions.
Again, thank you.

You're welcome.

Fortunately feelings and fears are not facts. A negative test result is a fact and yes, you are HIV negative.

Period.

Good luck to you.

About 2 years ago I had a possible exposure to hiv, and tested outside of the 3 month window period. The results were negative.

Recently though I have been diagnosed with hashimoto's thyroiditis. I was given an Rx and a brief overview, but that was it. I asked the doc if this disorder could relate to the herpes that I have intraorrally, and she said not likely.

I googled Hashimoto's, and it classified it as an autoimmune disorder. It is possible that I have had this disorder for some time, and I am wondering if it could have effected my test results. The intraoral frequent herpes worries me, as well as chronically inflammed tonsils, and I fear that I could have been infected. Both of these issues developed after my sexual exposure.

Do you know if Haishimoto's can extend the window period, and if so, is 6 months enough, or should I test outside that period?
Thank you for your time.

No hashimoto's thyroiditis will not extend the window period.
