Please help me i am too scared
« on: August 07, 2009, 07:49:00 am »
I had unprotected  HYPERLINK "http://www.medhelp.org/medical-information/show/63/erection-problems" sex with a  HYPERLINK "http://www.medhelp.org/medical-information/show/1937/female-sexual-dysfunction" female on 29th May 2009. After 7days I traveled to Jordan and on the 8 th day I had flue like symptoms, like  HYPERLINK "http://www.medhelp.org/medical-information/show/497/common-cold" common cold but no  HYPERLINK "http://www.medhelp.org/medical-information/show/136/fever" fever. I had night  HYPERLINK "http://www.medhelp.org/medical-information/show/501/sweat-electrolytes-test" sweat that day.. the common cold did last for 2 days. I came back to Bahrain after 7 days and told one of my Indian friend about my concern. He told me that For Indian men (I am  Indian)  the first symptom is swelling and pain in the legs. The next day onwards I have a  swelling on my  HYPERLINK "http://www.medhelp.org/medical-information/show/476/anterior-cruciate-ligament-acl-injury" knees but no pain. The swelling is just above the knee joint in the front side on both legs. In fact first it was on the right leg and then the left leg. I noticed it only because he told me about it.  General feeling of tiredness and feeling feverish it comes and goes i had watery nose which also comes and goes for few days. A feeling of not being healthy and I started having retro optical pain (pain behind my eyes especially when I move my eyes) . I did a HIV test after 40 days from a clinic and I got the result in 40 minutes. The result was negative. It read V19 HIV-1 and HIV -2 total Abs -> Negative.
I knew this is not reliable. After 22 days of eye pain and knee swelling I made up my mind to consult a doctor. This time I took a ELISA 6th generation test which came back negative. So this test was 49 days after  29th May. I went to an orthopedic Doctor to show my knee swelling and told him about the complete incidence. He told me to do a complete blood test and my7 blood test came back with increase in WBC count. WBC count was higher than normal it was showing 15000 and the normal was 11000. The other nutroohil and others were in the normal range. After the test next day onwards I  have dryness of tongue and throat. Some time i feel like I have a slight temperature. My eye was feeling like when u have temperature (fever) and my tongue was really hot. These problem just goes of for an hour after I take bath. My Eye pain lasted for 37 days. I had one or 2 small pimple like red colored rash ( very small) on my shoulder for 2 or three days. During this period I had this for say 2 or 3 times. Now I have noticed that I can feel some lymph nodes Just on the right and left side of my jaw. If you just look at the area you cannot see any swelling but if you feel the area you can feel a bump size cheery. If you try to catch it slips and moves .
Please help me out I need your input . Are these HIV symptoms and am i infected... please help me

Your links are not helpful because they don't say anything specific about your incident. If you had unprotected vaginal or anal intercourse then  you need to get tested at 13 weeks for a conclusively reliable result. Given that you tested negative at almost 6 weeks, that negative result is unlikely to change to positive at 13 weeks. All but the very smallest number of those who are going to seroconvert will have done so within 4-6 weeks after a possible exposure to the virus.

None of the symptoms about which you are concerned are in any way HIV specific. And neither the presence nor the absence of symptoms is in any case the way to know about your HIV status. Only an HIV test at the proper time can give you that answer.

If your symptoms persist you need to discuss them with your doctor. We can't diagnose anything in this setting.

Scared,

From what I can understand of your post, your last test was at 49 days - and that's seven weeks.

Your seven week negative is highly unlikely to change, but you need to confirm that result at the three month point.

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together. To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through all three condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results. Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

If you feel unwell, see a doctor. Whatever is causing your problems is unlikely to be hiv.

2. I have this knee swelling for past 2 months.. this also started after from the 20 day. has anyone had this symptom.
3. I have done 2 test one on the 39 th day and second on the 49 (7weeks) day. doth are negative. do you think it will be positive because now my retro orbital pain (pain behind my eyes) is gone. and I have 2 lymph nodes just under my cheek bone. There is no sweeling on that area but i can feel the lymph nodes.

scared,

1 - No. It's nothing to do with hiv.

2 - A swollen knee has nothing to do with hiv.

3 - I've already told you that I do not expect your seven week negative to change.

Keep your hands off your lymph nodes. Constantly touching them to see if they're swollen can actually cause them to swell. Leave them alone!
