thrush?
« on: August 29, 2007, 09:38:09 pm »
i'm fairly sure i have thrush starting....gums have been very sore the last two days and now I notice the insides of the cheek with the rough, white-ish coat....

advice? is there anything to "nip it in the bud"....or will a doctor prescribe the right antibiotic and things will go back to normal fairly quickly?

About six months since infection here..
Thanks

Go to your doctor and have them check it out.  If you do in fact have thrush in my experience it was just some time taking diflucan to get rid of it, though I'm sure there are other anti-fungals that are used.

Hey st6,

Your numbers seem pretty high for you to be dealing with thrush, but I have seen odder things happen.

I would check with your doc as soon as you can. He/she will be able to better tell what is going on.

If it is thrush, there are several reliable treatments. There are antifungal pills (thrush is caused by a fungus), and there also is a "swish and swallow" liquid treatment that works very quickly.

The type of treatment will probably depend on how advanced the outbreak is.

Hang in there. If you get it under control relatively early, you shouldn't have too much problem with it.

HUGS,

Mark

i had espohogeal thrush and it was hellish.  the good side was that diflucan eased the pain almost immediately (well, within the first day).

but Mark is right:  get to a doc ASAP.  if it is thrush, it will continue to get more painful just a quickly.

sorry.  keep us posted.

I got that dreaded thrush while in the hospital.  Not only did it look gross, it tasted really nasty!  I'd advise against the swish stuff.  I know some like to use it, but it got so that I'd heave and almost vomit just holding it getting ready to swish.  I could have handled it for a couple of days, but I had this great big bottle of it to last for a while.    I called my Dr. and got pills for it - a much better option.  Take care.

Mine must not have been bad when I got it because it was not painful at all.

And ladies, it's ALWAYS about pills.  ALWAYS.

I am currently enjoying a bout with thrush. YAY!

I opted for a course of flucozanole (pills) as everyone up to this point has said its far better then the dreaded Nystatin.. yech!

Yes, Nystatin is dreadful.  I've had thrush quite a few times, and Diflucan always worked well for me.  Hope you get things taken care of quickly, as thrush can advance rapidly.

Can't really offer any more advice than what has already been given to you. Diflucan worked very well for me, also worked very fast. If you smoke, you may want to lay off the cigs for awhile, until it goes away

Same advice here, diflucan cleared mine up in under a week and haven't experienced it since.
From what I remember, it pops up when your system is burdened. although your numbers are rather high, did you recently have an illness that caused it to appear?
call your doc, its easily cleared up.

Don't know if I have thrush or not or I burnt my tongue rushing out to work in the morning. I quickly drank my coffee, which most likely explains the burnt tongue scenario. Today, I have been drinking water all the way. I have never had thrush b4 because my whitish tongue resolves itself by drinking plenty of water.

hey there.
If you do have thrush you probably want to avoid the sweets including high sugar content foods (such as Dan-active; go for the unsweetened yogurt)
