Florida Department of Health's 'Faces of HIV' puts faces to the disease

TAMPA --

A group of Floridians are putting faces on a disease they said is infected by stigmas and stereotypes of those who don’t understand.

'Faces of HIV' is a mobile exhibit in the back of a box truck the Florida Department of Health is having driven around Florida.

Inside, portraits of 13 Floridians living with HIV or AIDS are exhibited. Journals and videos accompany each portrait to let each person document and tell their experience.

Two Bay area volunteers said they wanted to be a part of the project to get conversation on HIV and AIDS started again.

“Now you don’t hear about it too much and that’s another reason why I was just so grateful to be a part of the project,” Tracey Dannemiller said.

“They don’t want it to happen to them, but they’re not having the conversations that need to happen,” Kamaria Laffray said.

The Department of Health estimates 135,000 Floridians live with HIV and AIDS.

“I hope this campaign accomplishes opening people’s eyes to getting tested so that they don’t too become a face,” Laffray said.

The exhibit was on display at the University of South Florida on Friday and the St. Petersburg Pier on Saturday.

Thanks Eric,

I'm not getting older, I'm getting better!   ;)

In December, t-cells were 505,  as of April 9th---507

Percentage in December was 14, on April 9th 17%  . Can't seem to break out of the teens, with the percentages.  They're always between 14 % and 17 %.

Otherwise, things are going well,  A little fatigue now and then, but can't complain !

Hope all is well with you------Ray

don't feel bad. ;) I've got that same issue (16%, with super-duper cholestrol, liver functions, BP etc), only with 200 less tcells. but they're doing the job so I ain't complaining. LOL

hey, Ray. is this exhibit anywhere near you? I watched the vids online this week and wonder what it's like being inside that exhibit. (I also watched a BBC broadcast of "We were Here" too. it was only ok I thought. I guess I'm just jaded, not hearing anything new from the stories of my living LTS friends and my own story - but at least the history is being perserved)

It was in St.Petersburg last weekend. ( at the pier)  If I had known about it, I would have liked to have seen it.

But didn't know about it until after the fact. I'll watch for it again.
