I tried to concentrate when I watched the innocent Paul Kevin Curtis's celebratory press conference but it was so odd -- it was like Robert Preston in Music Man odd. http://www.thedailybeast.com/videos/2013/04/23/freed-ricin-suspect-offers-lawyer-footrub.html
So a bitter freud about Mensa between the two gents, turns one of them into a homicidal maniac.

The NYTimes had articles on each brother yesterday. Not very interesting. A better and shorter one was in Gawker about the father's history and speculations on the father-son dynamics.

As I picked up in one report a few days ago, dad was indeed a lawyer. In fact he was a prosecutor for the Russians, so hated by his countrymen, but then the country was on-again off-again...

His sister was married to an American CIA guy's daughter. Coincidence, it seems.

The Times report gave a hint at the true miserable life course of the dad, as he was repairing cars in Boston in an unheated space (actually, right outside??), off licence.  (I remember immigrant operations like that in the South End in Bridgeport. My uncle told me half the parts are stolen...)  Ironically the family was finally safe, but it was not successful exile for the mom, dad, and the older brother.  So I guess the uncle was spot on explaining the why simply as them being losers.

_____

I thought the most intriguing end of week "reporting" wasn't about the criminals and their family.  It was just part of a joke by Bill Maher - they were talking about the "police state" and the "military state" and he showed pictures of the Boston Police, their gear, and their vehicles.  It was the scariest swat team equipment you'd ever seen. It looked straight out of your worst dystopian nightmare - and completely military.  I wondered if the stuff was from National Security and elsewhere, and if perhaps they just stuck "Boston Police" stickers on it for this operation.  Chilling..

The paper spoke to one girl who said she planned to get one of Dzhokhar's tweets -- "If you have the knowledge and the inspiration, all that’s left is to take action" -- tattooed on her upper arm.

Another girl -- who tweeted last month "Yes i like Justin Bieber and i like Jahar but that has nothing to do with why i support him. I know hes innocent, he is far too beautiful" -- told the paper she feels "like he’s my brother."

Re---- FBI and Ricin suspect

' an Elvis impersonator obsessed with organ harvesting '

***BREAKING*** Man with ties to Boston bombing suspect shot during FBI questioning in Orlando, Florida

Just read this in NY Times.  I've read reports about the FBI (not online), and I have to admit, I'm suspicious of their actions.  While I'm sure their job is tough I'm not convinced they're totally ethical.
I've never killed anyone, but I frequently get satisfaction reading the obituary notices.-Clarence Darrow

3 different law enforcement groups interviewing a suspect known to be dangerous, and who just admitted a triple murder, and yet he had a knife?

Its not very clear where this interrogation was taking place?  Wouldn't he have been searched for weapons???

So we have a confession, but its not signed, and he's dead now.  Confession further indicts the older brother as an evil doer.  I don't know, but I do wonder, who benefits from this development?

This whole story is filled with surprises.

Conspiracy theories aside, the chechnyan hoods do seem like an especially fucked up pathological lot.

As I suspected, the guy was unarmed....  Not that anyone seems to be following this story anymore.

I don't really believe in conspiracies... Its surely just the disappointing reality that police work is human, iffy, mistake prone.

_____
Still, don't understand how they riddled that boat with what sounded like 1000s of shots.  And the brother was unarmed.  And why was it weeks before the news about the confession scrawled on the walls of the boat?
