Hi Alone . You may get a better response for your cause if you introduce yourself and tell us a little about who you are and why this is an important cause for you . Are you disabled or HIV positive yourself ?

Hello, and I apologize for the lack of introduction. I have been HIV positive since 2008. I like many people living with HIV am on a fixed low income budget. I have been trying to buy a home for some time now and of course I am told that I cannot afford to do so. Considering that many people pay more in rent than they would for a mortgage I thought it only logical that something should be done to help. In searching for programs I found the White House Petition site and figured If they can help the Banks with bail outs they can help us with Mortgages. There are many homes out there that are cheap enough for us to afford. I think we would all feel better mentally and physically if we didnt have to worry about losing an apartment because the rent went up, and you have to balance paying for meds or rent. I cant find an apartment in my town that is under $700 a month, but a $30,000 house would pay less than $350 in mortgage. Seems like a no Branier to me. I am not very good at explaining myself, but I am trying.

While it sounds like a nice idea I dont personally believe that the government should be subsidizing mortgages for people who dont qualify financially, regardless of disability status.  If you cant afford it you shouldnt own it is my motto.
