New Single Dose Pill

The FDA is expected to approve a new single pill integrase regimen currently being called Trii by the end of summer.  Has anyone with more experience/understanding about hiv meds looked into it, and if so I would be interested in your thoughts.

It's simply a combination in a single dose of medications already approved by the FDA: dolutegravir (aka Tivicay), abacavir and lamivudine -- the latter two already have been combined as epzicom.

Yes, I know.  I guess its already proven itself.  It will be interesting to see if it becomes the NEW single dose choice.  Also be curious to see how doctors embrace it or if they will hesitate with the usual "let's wait and see" approach.

If GSK had rights to Truvada, they would have offered Tivicay + Truvada (rather than + Epzicom). But they don't... competing GSI has those rights

3TC is already off patent and TDF is or should become soon off patent

So may be a Tivicay + Truvada-like pill will be available, one day...

Epzicom (aka Kivexa) has a (small) barrier to entry: a genetic test must be taken before initiation. The once-suspected cardiovascular risk has been ruled out non existant by FDA, but doctors will remain cautious.

Usage rate is
Truvada ca. 70%
Epzicon ca. 30%

I know my Doc is really looking forward to get Tivicay approved here (not yet...)
We discussed it already, althought I do not see any reason I should switch out of Viramune + Kivexa to Tivicay+Kiveva or even Trii, at this time, but it is always cool to have more drugs and options

There is a growing number of patients on Tivicay+Kiveva (aka Tivicay+Epzicom) so I guess those patients will be prompt to opt for Trii

GSK share will be going up, I suppose...

modified to add: some small trials are on going for Viramune+Tivicay (2 molecules only) as NRTI sparing regimen: that would be of interest to me...
