A Special Invitation to AMG

I'd like to extend a very special invitation to all AidsMeds forum members.  Whether you've been around here for a while or not, you may have seen references to our annual gathering,  referred to as AMG.   

The location of AMG this year is scheduled to take place in Boston, MA August 5th - 12th and you are all invited!

I'll second what Dennis said about the AMG.  In fact, this will be our fourth... Montreal, San Francisco, Mexico City, and now Boston.  All have been great times with great people.  It's the one time a year I get to spend with my 'AM Family' in person.

I'll second David's second too.  (Beginning to need a degree to figure out the seconds!   ;))

This will be my 5th AMG and everyone of them have been memorable (snicker snicker).

So if you have to beg, borrow, or steal, (work the nearby corner?), please try to join us.  You'll have a great time.

Sure would be nice to attend AMG this year, but there's no way possible. Too many other priorities to take care of. This year we'll be spending it close to home.

 Tested positive in 1985,.. In October of 2003, My t-cell count was 16, Viral load was over 500,000, Percentage at that time was 5%. I started on  HAART on October 24th, 2003.

I would like to attend. I have been out of touch with people for a long time, so I'm not sure how I would be able to interact with everyone, but I would like to be a part of this years event. I read about it every year and one year I was only three hours away from AMG but I chickened out, LOL. There is still a ways to go but maybe a miracle will happen and I'll be able to scrape some money together.

Holly, depending on what airport you'd leave from, you may be surprised at how cheap flights can be.  SFO seems to have the cheapest flights.  Check out www.sidestep.com for flights from all airlines.  Even if you don't book through them, it's an easy way to find good flights.  As to wondering how you'd interact with others... unless you're some kind of unsocial freak with absolutely no sense of humor (the weirder the better, I must say!  ;)), you'll fit in just fine.  I can't think of many who haven't fit in.  With a very few exceptions, attendees have had a great time, or we wouldn't keep going back!  Remember, we were all new to an AMG once!

I must agree. It is a really fun time, a great way to get to know the AM family, and to just let your hair down.

This will be my fourth AMG. I have to say, I have fond memories from all of them - and a few embarrassing photos of myself.

Now that's asking a lot, as so much goes on!    :D  I'd recommend reading through some of the threads in the AM Gatherings forum.  You'll find where we've decided on social events, outings / group trips, a few pictures (most are not posted here due to ownership issues), and memoirs.  Oh, and some of us even get married!  You'll find a bit of grumbling and heated discussion in that forum, but that always seems to disappear once the time for AMG nears.  Don't let that dissuade you, though.  I think the fact that so many of us travel from all over the US and from around the world and do it again and again says the most.  Personally, the two of us go on one big vacation per year; our last three vacations, and the upcoming one in August, will be to AMG's.

I have been to the last two AMGs  and am planning on going to Boston...I would like to chime in here and pitch a little to those who can help provide some support for the members who are really strapped for cash...every year there is a fund provided by generous people to help out some folks who could really use a break but just don't have the resources......people have donated cash,  transportation, and room shares...all are welcome...the Grants committee evaluates  those who have asked for support and provides as much as possible to the requestors.....even if you cant attend  but can spare a nice donation please contact the  GRANTS committee and donate whatever you can.... this is a very good event..allows you to meet and mingle with those friends you made on the forum.....has been a really fun time  and Boston has so much to offer..  please HELP ....

Hey Jon

As David already mentioned, it's kind of hard to detail everything that goes on, because so much does go on.

Here's a couple of links  to some of the previous AMGs and what we did:

Boston will be my 4th AMG as well. Last year 7 of us got an early start on the flight from Dallas to Mexico City!  But it's not just about a party, even if it's primarily a social event. I've made some tremendous friends on this site and have brought a couple into the group.

This by no means describes my total experience with AMG, but I was proud to see this in print last year:

Jan and Curtis are coming to Boston, and hopefully Alan and Mike, too; and of course the fine folks who have chimed in above, as well as my partner Santi who joined us in Mexico City last year.  One year we invented our own cocktail, which although a drink, seemed fitting since we all met on "AIDSmeds."

Last year was Mim's and my very 1st AMG.  I can't begin to tell you how much it meant to me.  From the minute we stepped out of our cab at the hotel to the second we stepped back in to our cab for our trip back home, we were surrounded by some of the best people that this world has to offer. 

I learned a lot about myself and about my daughter on the trip.  She's a strong little booger who inspired me all the way to the top of the world's 3rd largest pyramid.  I thought I'd have to carry her, but her will and determination ended up carrying me. 

If anyone has a chance to attend, I can guaruntee it will be something that you'll never forget.  You will be blessed beyond your imagination.
