Is this a good way of coping with my grandson's suicide?
« on: January 04, 2009, 02:33:26 pm »
I was wondering if this is a good way of helping me cope with my grandson's suicide. Basically, I have not really had time to grieve because my wife is grieving and I need to remain strong for her. Instead, I have been going to a group at a local hospital for care takers of HIV+ people. The way I am coping is to help others help their loved ones. A lot of these people do not know a lot about the disease or how it is treated, so I am trying to provide the best information I can to help them, since I no longer have a loved one with HIV.

Thoughts?

You need to do whatever it is that works for you.

If that involves helping others then so much the better.

Unfortunately I know from personal experience that suicides are especially difficult.

Good luck and don't forget to take care of yourself and your wife.

There will never be enough devoted, thoughtful caretakers.  YOu perform courages deeds in what can be a very lonesome, scary time for many.  Many people become isolated and abandoned and afraid when they're diagnosed.  I think opening your heart to them is a eloquent tribute to your grandson.

You will always have a loved one with HIV.  Your grandson's passing will never diminish that love.  The hopeful thing are you doing is bringing love and support to people in your group and that is a great gift.  God love you!

Being strong and helping others is a very valid means to cope with one's own grief. Just be sure to seek help and support for YOUrself should YOU need it. Wishing you and your family peace for your loss.
