I am to do a presentation on HIV/AIDS from the perspective of someone who is positive at a health fair here at the local university (not sure where it ranks on the US News of best universities....oh wait that is another thread) next week. They need a title for my presentation.  My main point I want to stress is to get tested because it is much better to find out you are positive early rather than later.  I also will talk a little about being HIV+.  So anyway, I need a title for the presentation, something catchy and attention, grabbing anything is better than "HIV and You" or "Raising HIV Awareness"

They need a title today, any suggestions.

How about:

"HIV, it's not just for gays any more!"

"Everything you ever wanted to know about HIV but were afraid to ask!"

"HIV, an equal opportunity infection"

"My life with HIV"

"Me and HIV, partners for life!"

"Why you should care about HIV!"

"Do you have HIV?  If not, DON'T GET IT!!"

I'm sure I could think of more insipid titles but this is a start.

Too Young to Die?  You think College is Expensive, Try AIDS?

I've been thinking about that since you posted this and haven't come up with anything creative, but it occured to me that a lot of people on here have creative nicknames that could work.   The one above grabbed my attention.

I think it's great that you are doing this.  I've done several interviews for college students writing papers, but I've never done public speaking.

One thing that came up during the last interview I did with a girl was the financial nightmare and how people fall through the gaps in the medical/ insurance problem.   Immediately, she equated the situation with the financial aid system for college and all the red tape bullshit.   If you're middle class you can be wiped out and have your life ruined.   For some reason she really related to that in the way that most colleges have the same set up.  If you're poor or a minority, you're in.   If your rich doesn't matter, but if you are in the middle class those students and parents seem to be hit with the biggest financial burden.  I'm not sure if you could incorporate that into your discussion or should, all I can tell you is that she completely related to that.

Best of luck!

Wesley

Some good answers already posted. Here is one from a poster I saw this morning at my doctors office:

"Everyone has a history"

The poster is used to announce when they do HIV testing.

Good luck with the presentation and thanks for taking your time and effort to educate others.  Just think what an impact you can have if just one person gets tested knows their status, good or bad!

How about WE ARE ALL LIVING WITH HIV?

That's what I always say when I speak to any group and no matter what I talk about in relation to HIV, it fits.

I want to wake audiences up to the reality that whether they're HIV+ or not it's part of everyone's life until the epidemic is over. Then you can go into the specifics about prevention, the value of early testing, etc.

Good luck with this and let us know how it works out.

Cheers,
Andy Velez

"What does it take to get you to talk about HIV?"

"Can you pass the test?"

"Make it count! Get tested!"

"My partner has HIV but all I got was this lousy t-shirt!"

 ;D

Anyhow, just some thoughts. You could also play around with the wording on the last and maybe get some pencils or notepads or something and then pass them out to take notes at class. :)

I voted for    "+/-  It's Better to Know"  but think maybe a better title is

"HIV: It's Better to Know"

only because I wonder if most people will "get" the +/- signs.  If the group knows beforehand your presentation is on HIV then maybe +/- will make sense, too.

Best of luck!

The Only Way To Know For Sure: Get Tested  Why?  Because of worried well fears, 'I did this or felt that, could this be...?'  Because of those who assume that they couldn't have gotten it...but did.  Because of all of the faces of aids and hiv, all of the bodies with aids and hiv, all of the ages with aids and hiv.  Good luck, Win

I'd have to agree with Boo.

Definitely not the +/-   It's too confusing.  You might have the math club showing up. ; )

How bout something creative in time for Valentine's Day in a big pink heart?

Show someone you love them, Get Tested kind of train of thought.  I can't think of anything that ryhmes now, but maybe someone else has a Valentine theme that could apply all year as well.   Lot of young couples on a college campus.  Something that would incorporate singles too!

Show your love, Get Tested?

Spread your love, not HIV

I dunno, maybe I need a smoke to get my creativity back ; )
