Magic Johnson is one.

Freddie Mercury from Queen had it (R.I.P.)

I also remember that Annie Lennoux was portrayed in the media as Hiv Positive, when she merely wore a shirt at an event, she was a huge advocate for prevention. So she tries to support the community.
Besides Magic and Freddie I don't really know of others.

I suppose it depends on how you define celebrity. Do you include people like Klaus Nomi, Robert Mappletorpe, Keith Haring, Gia Carangi, Perry Ellis, Willi Smith Alvin Ailey, Arthur Ashe, Hector Lavoe etc.? Certainly I do.

Of course if you're 20 year old you don't have a clue who these people are most likely. There's a list somewhere on wikipedia.

Musta been Fred. Henry Rollins was the lead singer of Black Flag, a seriously hardcore punk/rock band in the eighties. Plus Henry, is ummm, really hot.

Of course there's always the Wikipedia list but you have to keep in mind when reading it that not all the entries are accurate. It's one of those Wiki pages that tends to get vandalised by people think they're funny or by people who are just plain assholes.

btw, I used to buy drugs from one of Keith Haring's old boyfriends and also had the same doctor. I was also friends with Mapplethorpe's younger brother, Edward.

I'm pretty sure there are many others who don't disclose it to the public. Especially politicians. After all, many would see that as an end of career.

Tom Duane, NY State Senator, has been openly HIV+ and gay his entire 20-year political career. Or at least that's how I recall it, if not he came out with it early on. He was definitely openly HIV+ by the time he ran for first state wide office in 1998, previous to that he was on the NYC city council.

lol, yeah, he was Parsi. Parsis immigrated out of Persia some hundreds of years ago and settled in what is now, Western India (around Bombay). Their religion forbids them (technically) from inter-breeding with non-parsis, so they tend to look a slightly different to average Indian. A lot of the parsis that I know look very Indian to me, so I am sure there's been a lot of inter-breeding going on there anyway. I mean they look, eat, talk the same. In any case, Parsis consider themselves Indian and other Indians consider them Indian. An untrained eye could not tell the difference between us.

Anyway, I digress. Freddie may have been Parsi but he was more of a Brit than anything else.

- The amazing Fela Kuti (whom I believe serves as the main inspiration for a certain Ms. Knowles upcoming 4th album).

- The super talented and fabulous Sylvester.

- Puerto Rican salsa singer Frankie Ruiz, who shot to fame by releasing some very sexually charged singles such as "Desnudate Mujer" (Get Naked, Woman) and was eventually known as "El Papá de la Salsa."

- Cazuza, one of the finest singers and poets from my beloved Brazil.

- One of my favourite disco and soul divas, Sharon Redd.

- And let us not forget Jermaine Stewart, who ironically sang the '86 pop classic about sexual abstinence "We Don't Have to Take Our Clothes Off".

And that's where you are wrong, boo. As Philicia could probably testify, I know a little more about music than what was played during my "golden age". If you ask around about Hartman people will always quote the song that I mentioned; I did not say he was a one hit wonder (though by all technical means he was: "Relight My Fire" never made it to the Hot 100; "I Can Dream About You" was his one and only top ten single) or that he showed up in '84.

And as far as Loleatta goes, hon please. My mother had me listening to 'Love Sensation' when I was probably 6 or 7 years old. So no, it was not "Ride on Time" (nor her number one single with Marky Mark, & the Funky Bunch) that got this queen acquainted with miss Holloway. Many of you girls probably don't even know her mid to late 90's beauty "Shout It to the Top" with Fire Island. Hell, I bet many people here don't even know that she passed away two months ago.

And Black Box? Of course I loved them. No shame in that. I enjoyed them and I loved some other Italo-House numbers like Livin' Joy.

So... Don't hate. I am rather quick at admitting when I FAIL. When it comes to music that ain't gon' happen.
