I am one of those people that has had asthma most of my life. It generally isn't a problem unless I developed a respiratory infection. It wasn't diagnosed or treated when i was a child. And at the age of 36, I found out I had it when I ended up being admitted to a hospital for pneumonia.
Generally the asthma was only in the right bronchial tube and responded well to standard anti-asthmatic medication. However, recently I have developed a more chronic and severe form of asthma and not only have problems with the right bronchial tube, but the right lung as well. I have several questions relating to this. Does anyone have experience on how diet can affect this problem? Also, does anyone know of a gene therapy trial in the US or abroad that is addressing asthma?
After doing a bit of online reading, I discovered that there is a gene that causes the lung to be repaired in adolescence, but not as an adult. This concerns me because I suspect I am developing COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease). I have never smoked, but have a long history of developing pneumonia in the winter.
While viewing the California American Lung Association website, I did notice that chemotherapy was a big risk factor for developing COPD. This was listed in Dr. Lin's statement that "chemotherapy treatments [are a risk factor]" http://www.californialung.org/media-center/publications/lung-health-news/researcher-studies-role-stem-cells-lung-repair
Does anyone know of a clinical trial for COPD in or out of the US? I did find a company called Osiris online, but they advise me that they just closed Phase II enrollment and that they won't be doing a Phase III arm for at least two years. Apparently they need time to evaluate the data.

If you go on www.clinicaltrials.gov you can search for things such as "asthma" and "COPD," etc.

this is a list of COPD trials that are listed as not yet being completed.
