I'm so scared
« on: December 25, 2013, 10:26:31 pm »
So exactly one week ago I made a huge mistake. I paid for sex and had receptive anal sex. The person wore a condom the whole time. I was bleeding and I know at one poit the person inserted fingers into my anus. I never saw the condom come off but I am very scared. I also had unprotected receptive oral sex for a few minutes. A week later I have a headache, slightly swollen glands and sore throat. I've had minor diarrhea but I do have some stomach issues. I don't know if the person ejaculated inside the condom or not. I am worried that I could have been infected if they did and it came out or if there was cum or Pre cum on the fingers. I had a rapid test but after reading I know it won't show up. I am going for a RNA early test Friday since that will be day 9. I'm so scared and making myself so upset? No fever or anything but the symptoms mentioned. I know I won't know until I take the test but any feedback would be appreciated. I'm so scare. I made a dumb decision and I'm a mess. Thank you.

I also contacted the person and expressed my concern. They said they were tested every year, no issues, never took condom off and that it was a business and they know what they need to do. Should I be worried?

You never had an exposure. You had protected sex and fingering and oral sex are not risks of HIV transmission.

Thank you! I was worried that it may have come off but this is me just freaking out I think. I remembered seeing it on during and after the anal. Any chance some could have squeaked out? I mean I guess that is a dumb question since anything is possible. Is 9 days okay to take the RNA HIV test? And that would definitely show something wouldn't it? Isn't that the purpose?  for early detection? I'm just scared and makin myself worse. Really do appreciate the feedback.

Grung,

You don't need RNA testing as you didn't have a risk. Even if you DID have a risk, you don't need RNA testing.

The earliest one should test when there HAS been a risk (you have NOT had a risk) is at six weeks, with an antibody test.

The vast majority of people who have actually been infected will seroconvert and test positive by six weeks, with the average time to seroconversion being only 22 days. A six week negative must be confirmed at the three month point (when there has been a risk; you did NOT have a risk), but is highly unlikely to change.

You can test with an antibody test at three month past ANY UNPROTECTED anal or vaginal intercourse and it will be conclusive.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

ALTHOUGH YOU DO NOT NEED TO TEST FOR HIV SPECIFICALLY FOLLOWING PROTECTED INTERCOURSE, anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!
