Viread
« on: April 07, 2012, 10:09:16 pm »
I am posting this here because I haven't had any success in the HBV community.  I am wondering if anyone knows whether Viread (Tenofovir) is available in Mexico (Tijuana)?  With the Affordable Care Act being contested, I am unsure whether my health insurance/RX benefits will be good in a few months and need to find another place to get this med.

Thanks.

Hi SD, welcome to the forums. While we don't usually permit hiv negative people to post in sections outside the Am I Infected, Off Topic and Someone I Care About forums, I think we can make an exception in this case - but please limit your posting to this thread (unless of course you're posting in one of the three listed above). Thanks! :)

While I don't know whether or not you can obtain Viread in Tijuana, I do know that the Indian pharmaceutical company Cipla makes generic Viread - and they call it Tenvir.

We have several US resident members here who buy antiviral generics manufactured by Cipla - Cipla is a trusted company - so you may want to look into that. Good luck - I hope you manage to keep your Viread supply steady.

Have you yet found our sister site hepmag.com? The Lessons available there are very good and also contain information on patient assistance and co-pay programs, which you may find helpful. You'll find the link in the Lesson Index on the right-hand side of the page.

Hepmag.com also has forums, although they don't get the same amount of traffic as this place does - yet. You may want to post your question there as well, and don't be put off by the low thread count in the hbv forum. The forums are regularly monitored by the hepmag.com staff and one of them may have further information for you.

Again, good luck. I wish you well and I hope you found my post helpful.

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts
