Welcome to the "Do I Have HIV?" POZ forum.

This special section of the POZ forum is for individuals who have concerns about whether or not they are HIV positive. Individuals are permitted to post up to three questions or responses in this forum.

Ongoing participation in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum (posting more than three questions or responses) requires a paid subscription, with secure payments made via PayPal.

A seven-day subscription is $9.99, a 30-day subscription is $14.99 and a 90-day subscription is $24.99.

Anyone who needs to post more than three messages in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum -- including past, present and future POZ Forums members -- will need to subscribe, with secure payments made via PayPal.

HELP! 2weeks is to long

 So this has been very hard for me! i wanted to start off by saying, this website is truly an amazing tool and everyone on here should be commended for their outreach!

 On Friday March 6, i went to go get a routine hiv test. I opted to do the oral swab ithink it is called the elisa test. The test promised a 20min result and i didnt not wanta wait! The Oral swab came back reactive. I am on several medicines For my GAD and panic disorder(Zoloft, ritalin, and closapam)! I have never engaged in high risk behave, i do have to say i have given head without a condom several times, But i heard the risk of oral sex is VERY VERY low! I am so scared right now , i dont know how i could have contracted Hiv. I was wondering if the medicines im on could create a false postive reaction! They did a second test which is been sent out to a lab and having a western blot performed on it, these results will take two weeks to come back. Right now i am thinking i am postive even tho the DR. said that wasnt the case!

Could i have had a false postive due to my meds or may i just being hopeful! PLEASE HELP AND COMMENTS,ADVICE, AND HELP WOULD REALLY MEAN THE WORLD TO ME RIGHT NOW, CAUSE I FEEL SO ALONE.

Yes, it absolutely could be a false positive.

A positive test result is always checked by having a western blot done. The western blot is very sensitive and HIV specific, and a negative result on the western always supersedes the earlier positive result.

With what you have described in terms of possible risks I expect you will get a negative western.

Waiting to find out can be nervewracking, so keep yourself productively busy in the meantime. I will help the time to pass more quickly.

my story! advice please

soooo..... i went 2 weeks ago to get a routine hiv test! i opted to do the oral swab with 20 min results! the swab came back reactive, so they did a second test they sent to a lab! i just got my results from the second screening back and the EIA and WB results came back neg, the lab interpretation was neg! my Dr told me i had to get a retest according to Florida state law, as a formality! what are the chances the second test could come back with different results! please help me with any advice!

Hi. I've merged your threads. Please follow our rule and keep all of  your entries together in this same thread.

As I said to you previously false positives do happen and of course they are very upsetting.

Given your recent results, particularly on the western blot, which is both sensitive and specific,  I expect you to continue to test negative.
