condom question
« on: September 29, 2008, 10:16:38 am »
I appreciate the work you do to help people understand hiv. I meet with a sex worker. While I was there she went to put a condom on me. I noticed that she had some alreadt open sacked on top of each other in a container. When she put it on I did not feel comfortable so I took it off after about 30 sec to a minute. Nothing happened while the condom was on. I took it off and ended up just masterbating myself. My question is could shehave put anything in the condom to infect me. I know hiv probably does not live long outside the body. Thanks

No she could not have put anything in the condom. HIV does not stay active outside its host.

Thanks

Please read our lesson on HIV transmission. There's a link to it in the Welcome thread which opens this section. You'll get the basics there and it may well save you some unnecessary worry in the future.

Cheers,

So no testing would be necessary for this situation. Even if there where anything in the condom. Thanks

I don't know what your mind is coming up with about what the sex worker might have "put into the condom," but I repeat, no guy has ever been infected by getting a blowjob. You aren't going to make history by becoming the first. And I don't see any need whatsoever for testing.

Andy,
I know that you can not get hiv from receiving a blowjob. My concern was about any fluids or anything she could h ave put in it before I meet with her. But Rapidrod answered me. Thanks Guys

OK. Stop worrying. There is nothing she could have "put into" the condom that would have been a risk for HIV transmission.

Get on with your life.

Also to those who posted above HIV cant live outside the body - thats not true. HIV can actually live along time outside the body in fluid.

As HIV is a virus, and not technically "Alive," I assume you mean "viable" or  "infectious."

And to date, HIV has not been spread after being out of the body more than a second or two. Less than a dozen cases of occupational exposures regarding splashes/exposures to mucousal membranes of blood with a high viral load, and even then, all within a health worker environment.

I would ask that you post a first tiered peer-reviewed evidence to the contrary, but to that end, you really ought to read the "welcome" thread and the posting guidelines. Only qualified people are allowed to post in this thread, which I assure you is based on scientific evidence and epidemiological proof, not 19980-1990's speculation.

"Many people, especially in the gay community, turn to oral sex as a safer alternative in the age of AIDS. And with HIV rates rising, people need to remember that oral sex is safer sex. It's a reasonable alternative."

Air does not kill HIV  but exposurer to air can dry the fluids that contains the virus destroying it and rendering it harmless very quickly.

I have deleted your post.

Thanks for your advice guys. Its amazing that we dont learn about this stuff in school. I never realized that hiv was that difficult to become infected. I just have one question about the mucos membrane for a man. Is the head of a penis one or is it insdie the uretha?

No, the head of the penis is not composed of mucous membrane. The cells inside of the foreskin and the inside of the urethra are the kinds which are receptive to transmission.

Yesterday made three weeks and I had a bad stomach ache and diarrhea. Do you guys think this is just a coincidence. Also lets just say the fluids did not die outside the body and I masterbated with her fluids it would still be a no risk if I understand right? Since it would be hard or impossible to get into the urethra that way.

Anyone who continues to post excessively, questioning a conclusive negative result or no-risk situation, will be subject to a four week Time Out (a temporary ban from the Forums). If you continue to post excessively after one Time Out, you may be given a second Time Out which will last eight weeks. There is no third Time Out - it is a permanent ban. The purpose of a Time Out is to encourage you to seek the face-to-face help we cannot provide on this forum.

Ron,

It doesn't matter if you masturbated with her fluids. Hiv is a fragile, difficult to transmit virus. Once it finds itself outside the body, small changes in temperature, moisture and pH levels all quickly damage the virus and render it unable to infect. This is why hiv is transmitted INSIDE the body, as in unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse. It is not transmitted through masturbation. Not one person has ever been infected this way and you won't be the first.

If you feel unwell, see a doctor. It's nothing to do with hiv.

And as Rodney says, you won't be permitted to use this website to go on and on about your no-risk incident. Please consider yourself warned.

Thanks guys for the help. It really is ashame how we as a society don't know how about hiv and transmission. This web site has been helpfull. Can anyone give me some info about the bodies web site. They seem to think everyting is a theoretical risk and should get tested. Are they a good website? Thanks again. Can you also recommend some web sites.

Ron,

If you have questions about another website, I suggest you go there and ask them yourself.

Thanks to all the Form Moderators!! You guys have really helped with my hiv anxiety. Also released how little I learned in Sex Ed in high school. All they teach is abstinence and which is very hard. I have done some reseach with this website and medhelp. Also thebody alittle bit but everything there was a theoretical risk. Anyway thanks to all of you and your information you guys are very know-ledgable. I realized that hiv outside the body dies quickly and that head of the penis is not a membrane but it is the inside of the urethra. I always thought the whole head was a membrane.HAHA. Hopefully sex ed will improve over the years. THANKS!!!!!

I got a rash on my stomach it was about 8-10 red dots. Today is the third day and they have started to fade away alittle. Can anyone give me some insight. Do you think is has anything to do with my last exposer. Maybe it is just fear but just want some peace of mind. I got tested at 6.5 weeks and it was negative.

It's not a surprise that you tested negative since you weren't at risk to begin with.

As for your red dots, that's something to discuss with your doctor. It is not an HIV symptom, but then symptoms are never the way to know anything reliably about HIV status if you have had a real risk. But you HAVE NOT had a real risk, as you have been told repeatedly.

If you can't let go of this fear, re-test at 13 weeks and collect the inevitable negative result. AND/OR go see a therapist or other mental health professional and talk about why you are holding on to a totally unfounded fear.

Sorry about posting again, but my anxiety got the best of me. I went to a strip club the other day and the lady gave me oral sex with a condom and after that she used her breast to get me off. I thought all this was safe but then my mind started wondering. What if the previous customer left fluids on her breast. I also told my wife and I was wondering if it was ok to have sex with her. Do I even need to test?

Ron, I have merged your threads. Please keep all of your entries in this same thread.

You've been coming here long enough so that you ought to have the basics about sexual transmission down. The only proven risks for sexual transmission of HIV are unprotected vaginal and anal intercourse. Period.

Everything else is a risk only in theory. As for sucking a breast, even of a nursing woman, that is only a risk for an infant whose immune system has not yet begun to function independently in its earliest months. You could be with someone who's dripping with someone else's semen and it still wouldn't be a risk. HIV is a fragile virus and is not transmitted by surface skin to skin touch.

There is no need for testing and yes, you can safely have sex with your wife as far as HIV is concerned.

Cheers.
