Welcome to Do I Have HIV?

Welcome to the "Do I Have HIV?" POZ forum.

This special section of the POZ forum is for individuals who have concerns about whether or not they are HIV positive. Individuals are permitted to post up to three questions or responses in this forum.

Ongoing participation in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum (posting more than three questions or responses) requires a paid subscription, with secure payments made via PayPal.

A seven-day subscription is $9.99, a 30-day subscription is $14.99 and a 90-day subscription is $24.99.

Anyone who needs to post more than three messages in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum -- including past, present and future POZ Forums members -- will need to subscribe, with secure payments made via PayPal.

HIV test stress

Hi I go for an HIV test on Tuesday, along with all the other std testing. It's the first time that I've been tested for anything, I'm 27yrs and due to problems with alcohol in the past I have had made some pretty crap judgement calls when It's come to sex, have had more than 10 one night stands with the opposite sex and well I hope this doesn't sounds lame and uneducated but one of them was with an African man 10yrs ago, does this make me at higher risk?..I couldn't even tell you if I had any acute HIV symptoms afterwards as it was so long ago and could have easily have mistaken them for flu...feeling lousy for the past week or so trying to reason with myself that if I do have HIV then I'll somehow manage to cope, truth is I'm terrified of the results and wanted to know if anyone else is going through this right now?..I've learned more about HIV and AIDS in the past week than I have in a lifetime but i don't know how reliable the internet is always. Also is Human Gene Therapy the closest to a cure?..sorry about all the questions.

Let's not get into discussing gene therapy at this point. It's totally premature to do that when you are getting tested, even though I appreciate that you're anxious and looking for comforting possibilities.

The good thing is that you are getting tested because whatever the result that will put you in the best position to deal with your health in a responsible way. Unprotected intercourse is definitely high risk for HIV and mixing casual sex with heavy drinking is a dangerous combination as well.

So from here on in you can have all the intercourse you want to and with no concern about their HIV status, race or other factors as long as consistently the insertive partner is always wearing a condom. No exceptions no matter what  you think you know about his history or how great he looks or any of that irrelevant stuff. A condom is a must.

For a conclusive result you need to be tested at 13 weeks past the most recent unprotected intercourse.
