What about missing 1 abacavir tablet one day?
« on: May 16, 2010, 08:34:50 am »
Normally I take Norvir, tenofovir, atazanavir, and two 300 mg tablets of Abacavir every day.  Yesterday I was on a short overnight trip, and found that there was a hole in my small pill bag, and I had lost one of my abacavir.  All other drugs were present and taken at normal time, but that meant for one day I took only the one 300g of Abacavir instead of 600g (two pills).

Upon returning home I didn't do anything about it, just took the regular dose at the regular time today.  Any opinions on the risk factor of this?
Please, just call me Berners.. or Baron.

I would say, that it's not a risk. When I was on separate 12 hour doses of Abacavir, I missed a dose or two. but never more than that. Should be fine.

My Liege.

I would agree with Ray that there is no risk at all - just so long as you aren't late or missing a dose too often.

All the info that I've read says that you need 95% adherence to keep the bug controlled; this means that you can be late, or miss, up to 3 doses in a month for a twice daily pill or only once a month if it's a once a day pill before it starts to cause trouble; 100% adherence though is still best.
