Most of the questions on the local HIV forum that I used to use were like this. Not about any kind of sex at all. You have the completely ignorant and those who "know, but just want to ask anyway", and you also have the phobics asking the same again and again in different guises. They shook the hand of a stranger. They gave change to a beggar that looks like he was a drug user. They took a bus and the handle was damp. They sat on a toilet and there was a hint of blood. They bought something and the vendor had a paper cut. Their kid played with other kids in the playground. And then they went to get tested for HIV, and they think that the nurse didn't change the needle or that the nurse herself is infected or that the cotton bud afterwards was used.
There is just no end to this madness and they don't take no for an answer. Just made me want to bang my head on a wall and cry, I had to stop reading that forum.

How gross (especially if the blood was on the seat)! Hubby always says he got HIV from a toilet... he sat down before the guy stood up!

...Up high on the stall wall. So high they had to stand on the toilet to reach it. And then they touched it.
With the hand that had the CUT on it, of course.
It's always the hand with the cut on it. Nobody ever thinks to switch hands when standing on toilets to reach stains way up high that might be blood.

I SWEAR I am not making this up... armed with a slightly thicker skin due to this thread I just checked said forum, here's a direct transaltion:

There are 2 small reddish scabs on my fingers (visible, but not open or bleeding, just really small and reddish) and today at the office I touched a letter which was stapled with a stapler, in the middle of which there was a a speck of something red was smeared. This letter was sitting in the office for a few days (at least 3) until I touched it. I am really scared that this red color was blood and that it touched one of the scabs on my finger.
As soon as I noticed the red color I went and washed my hands thoroughly.
If it was blood and if it contained the virus - can it survive like that for a few days? Can theoretically you get infected like that?"
Don't you just love how meticuoulsy intricate and detailed they always are, like they are writing a forensic report for the FBI or something?
Is it really mean of me to hope that a whole bucket of blood spills on these type of people or something equally terrifying but virtually harmless?

I remember hubby telling me he got it from a toilet seat when we were sitting on the deck at our meet and greet in Montreal..I remember giving him this strange look and thinking "OMG he has got to be kidding me" then he delivered the punch line and I just about choked on my drink I was laughing that much.. :D

I've had a few people bold enough to point-blank ask me "how did you get AIDS?"; not so much lately, but it happened fairly frequently in the 90's.
Depending on the mood I was in, I either told them the truth (unprotected sex) or I said "it was Mother to child transmission" (I was born in 1956...let them attempt to do the math) ;)

One of our housekeepers at work had to go clean a men's room in another building. Evidently, a man had been 'pleasuring himself and hit the wall.' Now, our housekeepers were yellow Playtex gloves up to the elbow. She was concerned that she might get that 'AIDS thing' from the residue on the wall! Sigh...

I did a little research, and I came up with some surprising results:

From this chart I think it's quite clear that:
1. Lip gloss cures polio
2. Polio prevents HIV
It's quite obvious to me that we need to eliminate Lip Gloss in order to prevent HIV, even at the risk of re-introducing Polio.

I do enjoy dipping into the gloss tester samples at department stores and duty free shops. I don't use the finger with the cut though, so I figured I kept the general population safe. Until now.
