Well there is big money to be made, too, working as a 'ho and you get more if you do it raw.  I hope that we are all not going to run out and find out for ourselves.  If the drugs are being paid for by a government, it's even sorrier since we have had posts in the forums from people who can't GET the drugs because they are going to other people.  I hope that the only thing someone would do with their drugs is, if they change their medications, get them into the hands of people/organisations who/which can get them into the hands of those without them.  At no charge.  Win

Tell your friend that his "morning after" pill idea of taking a single pill won't be enough to prevent him from getting HIV.

What he is doing is VERY dangerous as it simply won't work. PEP, the current only "morning after" type pill is a month long course of essentially HAART. Taking a single pill isn't going to work. IF he doesn't agree, then I have a bridge in London to sell him too.

Yeah. Selling meds to prevent the spread of HIV is a red herring, for sure. I think P.T. Barnum had the right phrase to describe that concept - something about a sucker.

Hello Sun,

I have not heard that in reference to Atripla, but of course it doesn't surprise me. For probably over a year and a half now, Viread (tenofovir) was popular in some of the club scenes. It was known as "taking the T". Thoughts were that by taking Viread, you could go out and have a night of unprotective sex, and you wouldn't get HIV. There are some uneducated people that think that way. There were some studies being conducted on this ( with the Viread) but I don't know what has become of those studies... Just my thoughts, but I believe a person is just heading for trouble by doing this.

The studies on this are still ongoing, not with Atripla, but using tenofovir as a "pre-exposure prophylaxis"  (their term, not mine, and they aren't all uneducated, some are HIGHLY educated).  I've seen no results from the studies.  Has anyone?  Until then, let's not all rush to pooh-pooh the idea.  It may yet be proven that those club kids were on to something.

But I just gotta say, a condom is WAY cheaper than a Viread pill.  Even if it works, who the hell is gonna pay for it?

And we can't even get the current administration to let us educate about condoms - there is NO WAY they'll be on board with passing out pills to the masses.

But if research showed it to work (and I doublt it will, due to resistance issues) , would ya'll have a problem with it?

I have also heard of a few people doing this, getting it as a part of their weekend party package...some crystal, some ghb or x and a PEP pill.  Who would pay for it?  Folks will pay 15, 20 or more dollars per tab of x.  And someone ready to slam some tina (shoot it up) would likely be game for shelling out for a PEP pill for their oncoming sex marathon.

Truth be told, in good ol' Cracklanta, the pill isn't usually paid for with cash...sort of traded out in exchange for some of the crystal...or tacked on as a "bonus" with larger crystal purchases.

Miss Tina...she is everywhere.

Hmmm. Yes. 2 cents time. Meds are tough on the body... and yes I realize the "pre-exposure prophylaxis" situation is different compared to ours in that we take meds every day ....but still.

The selling of HIV drugs has been going on for years.  It is widely assumed in the clubbing/sex party circles that you can use anti-HIV drugs as a prevention method.  And if that was not bad enough we have the club cocktail that will contain some of all of the following:

Crystal meth or Ecstasy to keep you pumped, Viagra to keep you hard, GHB to get you wasted and then valium and booze to help you wind down.

Sadly truth is often much uglier than we might want to believe.

This beggars belief. My poor boyfriend had to take prophilaxia last year, it was HELL. Two weeks of constant shits, cramps and fear. It is NOT the 'easy option', and taking ONE pill WON'T WORK. don't waste your money. Be safe
The people who make money out of people's fear like this are lowlife. I realse some people need to supplement their income, but like all illegally obtained drugs, how do you know what it is? Has some poor bastard been mugged and his meds stolen? where are they from?I don't get 'extra' meds to be able to do this, so are you taking away someones lifeline? ETC
i'm sorry, I feel really strongly about this...
(ever heard of SJS?).
Please, don't mess around like this. God forbid anyone should become positive after doing this for a while, it could even affect your treatment options!
I know i'm going to enjoy the party in the afterlife, but do you all mind that I'm going to be VERY late!!!

Well, with all due respect to whatever study is ongoing and to Whizzer, who is willing to give this guy the benefit of the doubt, I have to say the person popping an Atripla to prevent infection is absolutely nuts.

The Sustiva in Atripla, like all non-nukes, is very prone to resistance development. What this guy is doing is not only exposing himself by "doing it raw," but creating a possible resistance should he have or contract the virus by popping only one pill a week.

P.T. Barnum was right.

HUGS,

Mark
