Welcome to Do I Have HIV?

Welcome to the "Do I Have HIV?" POZ forum.

This special section of the POZ forum is for individuals who have concerns about whether or not they are HIV positive. Individuals are permitted to post up to three questions or responses in this forum.

Ongoing participation in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum (posting more than three questions or responses) requires a paid subscription, with secure payments made via PayPal.

A seven-day subscription is $9.99, a 30-day subscription is $14.99 and a 90-day subscription is $24.99.

Anyone who needs to post more than three messages in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum -- including past, present and future POZ Forums members -- will need to subscribe, with secure payments made via PayPal.

Do I need to test?

Hello:

I did a stupid thing yesterday. I went to a massage place. Here are my possible exposures:

1. Masseuse briefly touched her genital area (I stopped her), then she massaged my hands, arms, chest and belly. I think she only touched her upper genital region (clitoris) and not her vagina. She touched herself very briefly (less than 5 sec), before I stopped her. I am concerned that she may have spread a small amount of vaginal fluid onto my hands/arms/chest/belly. I did have a 2-day old insect bite on my chest. I don't think I had any cuts or open wounds on my hand/arms/chest/belly.

2. Masseuse let me massage her. I massaged her breast/nipples, belly, legs, back, and buttocks. I also touched the area above her genitals (pubic mound.. which was shaved). I did not touch her anus or genitals (vagina/clitoris/vulva). I don't think I had any cuts on my hands/palms at the time because I used alcohol gel after the massage and there were no "stinging" sensations.

She tried to give me a handjob, but I stopped her. She did not touch my penis/testicles/genital area at all.

My question is: Do I need to get tested for HIV or other STDs before resuming sexual relations with my spouse? If so, would a test at 4 weeks post exposure be sufficient? I want to do the right thing.

I am so ashamed and anxious about this. Your input is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

You were never at risk of contracting HIV in the situation you provided. Take the time to read the lesson on transmission. You can find the link in the "Welcome" thread at the top of the forum.

Thanks for the reply rapid rod.

1. So do you think that I can resume sexual relations with my spouse without putting her at risk due to my stupidity?

2. Also the time between the masseuse touching her upper genital region and massaging me was about 15 seconds. Can the virus survive on your fingers in a vaginal fluid medium for 15 seconds?

I need a reality check please..

You did not have a risk and there is no reason not to resume sexual relations with your wife.

HIV is not transmitted from fingers dripping with vaginal fluid. Absolutely no risk.

You are worrying needlessly like so many straying dawg husbands have before you. You did what you did. See it, accept it, let it go and get on with your life. This is NOT an HIV situation. Period. 

And you don't win extra points for torturing yourself with remorse. LET IT GO!

Thank you Rapid Rod and Andy for your advice. I will do my best to let logic rule over guilt and anxiety, to accept that this was not an HIV exposure situation.

I hate visiting these massage places and have been able to avoid them for a while. It seems that I turn to them during times of high stress levels.

I am so thankful that I can turn to members of this forum for advice and support during times of anxiety (warranted or not). Please know that your help is greatly appreciated.
