Keeping,

That's a good question.  I would ask my doctor about that.  No one here is really schooled in pharmacy enough to give a definitive answer to that, IMO.  Let us know what you find out.
 Luv,
Betty

I know that there is only one that is FDA approved which is Alli.  I would think that all the others are no good for you either way.  As for taking the Alli, I would speak to the docotr depending on the meds and history.  Good luck I am curious.

There are prescription ones, like Adipex also.

Yes, but the over the counter like hydoxycut and stuff is what I mean.  Over the counter are all questionable either way.

Hi,

Here is a link that might help, it is from the Mayo Clinic:

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/weight-loss/HQ01160 (http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/weight-loss/HQ01160)

The article says:

"A number of weight-loss pills are available at your local drugstore, supermarket or health food store. Even more options are available online. Most haven't been proved safe and effective, and some are downright dangerous."

and it says:

"Alli sounds like a dieter's dream, but there are no shortcuts to permanent weight loss. Alli is intended to be used only with a reduced-calorie, low-fat diet and regular exercise. Side effects, such as diarrhea and gas with oily spotting, can be significant if you don't reduce the amount of fat in your diet."

I'm no expert and I don't know much about Hydroxycut specifically -- but my guess is the healthiest way to lose weight, regardless of your HIV status, is to eat a balanced diet and exercise regularly -- no pill can replace the benefits healthy lifestyle. Definitely talk to your doctor if you choose to start taking any herbal supplement or weight loss pill.

good luck,

Sara

I have recently gained about 100lbs within 1 year.   I've been exercising and eating healthier foods.  I've been trying to diet but so far I lost only 4 pounds.  I'm considering trying diet pills.

I'm HIV+
Cardiomyopathy (heart condition)
Thyroid issues

I spoke with my pharmacist and he says Hydroxycut does not hinder HIV meds.  I forgot to ask him about the heart meds and thyroid meds mixed with Hydroxycut diet pills.

In the meantime, I will do some research about diet pills and drug interactions. Thanks ladies for info you have provided...

I have gained as well but then again I have been large most of my life.  However, I tried loined a weight-loss clinic only t put me on any of the diet be told by the doctor that she would not put me on the diet meds because they CAN interfere with HIV meds :(.  I was then told to attend meetings, pay my fees, and be around others that are losing.  Kinda hard to do when they are on meds and weight just does not come off for me with diet and exercise alone.

My HIV doc told me last week that I needed to buckle down and watch my diet because the extra weight is not good on my heart and when I eat the wrong foods my triglycerides and cholestrol goes up which puts extra work on my heart and liver and since the HIV meds does the same thing I am doing more harm to my self.  Other than my tri's and cholesterol I am healthy as a horse (figuratively speaking) except for HIV.

So it is hard to say the least.  So I understand your delimna and I am with you girlfriend.  Be careful, many OTC meds do not mix with HIV meds especially some herbs.  Guess if I really want to live longer I need to start eating better and should the weight come off then it will be a blessing - if not I just have to learn to accept me as I am and not worry what others think about my size.  Afterall, this body is the only body I will ever have and I really do need to take care of it.  Thanks for posting your question - I needed to hear myself talk and take my own suggestion at heart.

Maybe we can start a support group for those of us that are overweight.  ummmmmmmmm

I did take this it works great. No complications with my meds. Make sure you check with your doctor if it has issues with your meds. Lots of Doctors don't like prescribing them! Addiction you know. Generic name for it is Phentermine. As soon as I stopped taking it I gained the weight back, that is the problem with them. It didn't teach me anything. except I needed to go to a dietitian.
