Am In need for more testing
« on: November 27, 2006, 02:08:02 am »
Hey I am all too new at this I have many questions concerning this oral giving thing I gave this girl Cunnilingus the back in July of this year!!!! might I add she was my girl friend at the time so I was fine and dandy after that, to make a long story short I'm not with her any more and I have another girlfriend who told me to get testes dint know why but I became very anxious and tested at about 7 to 8 weeks, come to find out it was negative!! I was still concerned making myself practically sick I even had to drop my college classes cause of this incident. My question is 1.) are more tests warranted and question 2.)I told my mother and we went to the doctors last month which would have been three months I guess and asked the doctor for a full panel test and winked at him. What kind of test is this cause they took blood from me and also Urine?

PS. I only performed on her for about 10 to 12 seconds whats the risk?

Beast,

Going down on a woman is not a risk for hiv infection.

If you want to know exactly what tests your doctor ordered, you will have to ask him. I wasn't there so I couldn't possibly know. He could have ordered a pregnancy test for all I know.

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL STIs together. To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with a sexually transmitted infection.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results. Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Beast,

It's not risky no matter which way you lick it. Going down on a woman is not a risk for hiv infection. Make sure you use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse and you will protect yourself against hiv infection.

It really is that simple.

how common is it to get HIV from a needle?? Does it have to be an instant thing that the needle is transfered from one person to the next or can the needle sit for a couple days and still transmit the disease?

Beast,

Hiv transmission due to needle stick injury isn't very common at all. And yes, it has to happen directly, not with a needle that has been hanging around for any length of time.

Even when needles are being shared between street drug users, the needle has to be used directly after the infected person for there to be a chance of transmission. Hiv is a very fragile virus that does not remain able to be transmitted when it finds itself outside its preferred environment of inside the human body.

Getting HIV from the doctor? None. ARS occurs 2-6 weeks after infection
NB. Any advice about HIV is given in addition to your own medical advice and not intended to replace it. You should never make clinical decisions based on what anyone says on the internet but rather check with your ID doctor first. Discussions from the internet are just that - Discussions. They may give you food for thought, but they should not direct you to do anything but fuel discussion.

Ok so ARS happens 2-6weeks so it is not possible for it to occur at say 5 months or so and for vaginal secretions does the clitoris make any of these infectious juices or is that from deep with in Vagina?

HIV and its modes of transmission have been studied through and through over the years, and are already well established.   If you get infected through this scenario you're worrying about, you would make front page news of various international medical journals as you would be the first ever to become infected in this manner in the 20+ year history of this pandemic.  Doctors Gallo and Montagnier would be knocking on your door in no time.  Frankly, you are NOT that special, even if you have a very persuasive WINK!!!

does the vagina sweat and does the mixture of sweat and outter vaginal juices disable or dilute the infectious fluids or are the infectious fluids only found deep within a woman thats why it is theoretical to transmit from oral-vaginal?

Beast,

The infectious fluids in a woman are what's called the cervicovaginal fluids - this is the thick mucus that protects the cervix, which is found deep within the vagina. The fluids you would have felt on the outside of the woman's genitals comes from two glands on either side of the vaginal opening. These fluids have not been shown to be particularly infectious.

Also, saliva contains over a dozen different proteins and enzymes that damage hiv and render it unable to infect. Add to that the fact that the specific cells hiv needs to bump into to infect are not found in any great quantity in the mouth and you have no risk.

Pretty much any area of skin on the body can sweat. Sweat is not infectious.

Going down on a woman is not a risk for hiv infection.

Beast,

Have you read through the
Welcome Thread and followed the Transmission Lesson link found there? If you haven't, get reading so you can have a better understanding of what is and what isn't a risk for hiv infection.

Licking the anus, aka annilingus, is NOT a risk for hiv infection.

The main risks for hiv transmission are unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse and sharing drug injecting equipment. Use condoms for intercourse and don't share drug injecting equipment and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

If ARS symptoms appear they all come at the same time. In many cases they don't show up or if they do it is so mildly as to pass unnoticed at the time. They can last anywhere from a week to two weeks and vary in degree with each individual.

Have you read the lessons on this site about Transmission and Testing. Both of those lessons give you the basics you need to know. Before you ask anymore "just one more question," please read those lessons. You'll find a link to them in the Welcome lesson which opens this section.

Cheers,

No. Not if you go to a place where ears are pierced professionally. Shops that offer ear-piercing have hygiene rules to follow and they do follow them.

How about discussing your tonsil concerns with your doctor? You can't get anything diagnosed here.

Are you just shopping for things to worry about in relation to HIV? Have you actually had a risky incident?

Beast,

I've merged your new thread into your original thread - where you should post all your additional thoughts or questions. It helps us to help you when you keep all your additional thoughts or questions in one thread. It doesn't matter how long it's been since you last posted, we still require you to post in your original thread.

If you need help finding your thread when you come here, click on the "Show own posts" link under your name in the left-hand column of any forum page.

Please also read through the Welcome Thread so you can familiarize yourself with our Forum Posting Guidelines. Thank you for your cooperation.

Whether or not you need further testing depends on WHY you are testing. If you've had unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse, you need to confirm your negative result at the three month point. The window period for hiv testing - where there has been an actual risk - is three months.

Unless you're willing to tell us what you believe put you at risk for infection, there's no point in discussing this further.

Beast,

Any negative result is a good sign. But, if you were going to test early, you would have been better off waiting for the six week mark as the vast majority of people who have actually been infected will seroconvert and test positive by this time. The average time to seroconversion is 22 days. A six week negative must be confirmed at the three month point, but is highly unlikely to change. A 23 day negative is a little more uncertain than a six week negative but is still a good indication, particularly if the testing included p24 antigen testing.

You need to learn from this experience. You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together. To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through all three condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results. Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!
